Poor HandyMan

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Hired a local Handyman and his partner to do some odds and ends in my House. He did come over and gave me a Quote of $550.00 Which I was okay with at the time. Well the day He and his Partner show up and go to work. First Glen who was in charge starts to pickup some expensive items I have sitting on my table asking how much these cost. Then his partner is putting new padding on my cellar steps and he runs out of staples. So luckily I had an extra staple gun and he finished up with that. Then the helper needed a Philips screw driver and I had to lend him mine. Then he was suppose to Replace my leaking rain gutters. Never ever touched them. Was to hang some coping in my bed room. Never did that ! Was to drill *** for me and hang a big picture. Nope never did that Either ! Then at lunch time imposed on me to use my Microwave to heat his lunch up ! Then during the day his partner was working in my bathroom cleaning the grout out around the tub which he did a good job at that, Glen was outside taking smoke breaks and had friends stopping by in my driveway talking to him while he should be working ! Also had his Father come over to give him a hand. Then he comes to me later in the day and says he has to leave by 6pm. Well he leaves and I was left to climb a ladder by myself and rehang all my curtains.( 6 panels to be exact by myself ) Could not wait to get to the Bar ! And I COULD NOT WAIT TO GET THEM OUT OF MY HOUSE ! Pulled this so- called Handyman from ANGIE'S LIST !!! NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL I USE ANGIE'S LIST ! WHAT A JOKE ANGIE'S LIST IS !!! And now I have good people doing work for me and guess what I obtained them by WORD OF MOUTH !

Angie's list monthly magazine

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

The magazine Angie list sends out is a joke. I tried to get estimates on a door replacement and called @ 8 contractors that were in the magazine and only one sent out a person to work up a estimate the other seven tried to work over the phone instead of sending out a person to give a estimate on the project I wanted done, some of the contractors took my number but never called back, a secretary hung up on me, another gave me a hard time.

Why even receive the magazine if you can't use it. I dropped Angie's list.

I joined Angie's list a couple of years ago. Got a great contractor from them.

I no longer need the Angie's list services but I am being charged $9.99 every month or every three months on my credit card and I would like this discontinued.

thank you

i receive the Angies List "magazine"...WOW...what a mess!

How on earth does one even find a business they're needing.

I'm looking for a good plumber, we have a rather large job, but in searching thru the pages, is like a schitzophrenic 9 yr old put it together...is seriously a joke having all sorts of adds all jumbled together.

For instance, in the middle 4 pages, there's adds for plumber, Real Estate Agents, Roof cleaning, Flooring, Landscaping...its far too confusing trying to find a plumber so I'll just do my searching on line...and seriously, Lo's in on Angies list?

For shame! I'm now reading that Angies list cannot be trusted...

guess i wasted a few dollars joining this crazy advertiser mess, the magazines great for starting wood-stove fire...

Angie's list promotes and enables companies like this. Angie's list does not legitimate screening.

They leave it up to their customers, like you, to take the hit and write the negative reviews, which will "***" out the bad companies. That's what they say, but the scammers can scam a couple of good reviews or rip off all over again, as a "new" company.

A&D Exteriors are one of the worst roofing companies Angies list. They act professional at first glance but underneath that exterior is a company full of totally incapable, under skilled idiots that will produce fasle info and even lie to your face. My advice is to avoid A&D Exteriors like the plague. Also when you try to stand up to them and expose they're *** they suddenly turn boligerant argumentative, start with threats. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid !!!

Angie's list is retaliating against me (a former service provider) because I posted negative items here and elswhere.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have done NOTHING remotely illegal, but Angie's List is bullying me, and threatening me. They are using a tactic of enabling a cyber bully client of theirs to initiate their harassment. I have a former client who hates me because he received notice that his porch and deck are "dilapidated and dangerous" and in need of replacement, shortly after I did some unrelated work. This couple think that I called the city. However, they have no proof, and it wasn't me. All I can say is that, at the same time, they had roofers doing some work, and they had movers doing work. Both of these groups had to use the dilapidated stairs many times! They are blaming me because they believe that I am the most likely suspect due to a dispute over payment. Regardless, they shouldn't blame anyone. They moved out of the building and have tenants living there. They are obligated to provide a safe environment. Well, cut to the Angie's list bullying. Angie's list is claiming the negative review from their customer is "proprietary", EVEN THOUGH, I gave them links in an email to other websites where their customer posted the same exact lies/post. Angie's list is taking action against my company for posting THINGS LIKE THIS!! They are using their customer's feud with me to bully me. Angie's list WILL/HAS said that if I post ANYTHING LIKE THIS, it is considered harassment of one of their customers. WHAT???? Freedom of speech anyone??? Remember, their customer has posted the same thing everywhere, and I made NO mention of Angie's list until Angie's list started harassing me about it. Angie's list is retaliating because of the negative opinions that I've posted on my website, more than a year previously, and because I am helping with a class action lawsuit against them! I've spoken with an attorney and HOPE to sue! Disclaimer: Angie's list is a struggling for-profit public company who answers to shareholders and is driven by greed. I reference to one of their clients in this review ONLY because it is relevant to my review of Angie's List. I do not post any personal information on their client, who is slandering my company all over the internet. I am NOT writing this to harass anyone. I am writing this to give factual information on Angie's list totalitarian regime. Angie's list CANNOT limit my freedom of speech. They CANNOT destroy my Civil Liberties!

my prior post on this side, from July 31:

http://angies-list.pissedconsumer.com/angie-s-list-siding-with-criminals-201507****5023.html

Angie's list is now harassing me for speaking out against them, claiming it is harassment of one of their clients, and that THEY have a proprietary claim to the review that their client posted ALL OVER the internet.

Horrible customer service. Constant, patronizing apologies for an error on their part, but not willing to do anything to resolve the problem in a way that is helpful for me. I will NEVER trust them with my money again! So ironic considering the basis upon which this company was built. Assuring you if you use their list you won't get jerked around and then to be jerked around by them. I don't even want my money back - just want a service I can use it on, but since the original was a "Big Deal" I can only use it on another big deal. So far no "Big Deals" I can use and time is running out. How convenient for them.

Angie Hicks promotes Known crooks

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Attempted to contact Angies list about known crooked HVAC Contractor they told me they had confirmed them as good I am/was an Electrical contractor doing work for this Co. and know firsthand that they are not doing the work properly, over charging, not using proper permits etc. Gave them several names to contact and they told me they had no interest in contacting them, I assume the HVAC contractor paid Angie Hicks enough to cause her to not care about the theft she condones. Angies list is a hoax they do not do the proper research or at least they don't follow up on potential changes. They were warned about a crook and told my they don't care. not a good source for reviews

Angie's / Service Co. take money with no viable alternative/total ripoff

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Have to join the membership(ripoff),then "get your deal", but if not completed within 30 days, which is not clearly stated anywhere, you are not dealing with the Service Company, have to go back to Angie's to get Refund. If 30 days are passed, due to any reason, YOU have to find an "alternative service" to use your money?? In other words, YOU don't ever get your money back, and you lose the membership fee too(ripoff). The Service CO is unreliable in calling to set up appointments, once paid, they don't care! Guaranteeing they do not have to do the jobs.

Angies List - Customer Care Review from Chicago, Illinois

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Angie's list received a complaint about my company, and I filled out the "conflict resolution" paperwork "agreeing" to meet the members demands. -Angie's list was supposed to remove the review. -Angie's list did NOT remove the review, which violates their policy. -The catch is that the Angie's list member hired me to follow another contractor. When I got there to do the job, the work was not done by the previous contractor, and if I would do the work it would put peoples life in danger. This is a porch and deck in Chicago. I was to remove a section, and raise it when I replaced. I told the customer that I could not do it, and replaced it without raising, giving them $100 off the $1000 total for labor. -The customer has lied in their libelous reviews online, and say I was paid in full. The payment history, through chase, proves my version. -The customer has lied about other details. Like, the fact that they knew that the city of chicago inspected the porch/deck prior to their negative reviews, and called the structure "dilapidated and dangerous". -The city of Chicago deemed the structure "dangerous and dilapidated". The pic that I posted shows the repair work that I did (if it posts), and how someone could easily fall off the roof on two sides, especially if the section is raised more than one foot. It will be like it is on "stilts". The previous contractor was supposed to build two retentions walls, and raise the roofing, so that I could raise the walkway...but they did non of that work. -The Angie's list member began posting the libelous negative review all over the internet, following the notice that they are REQUIRED to rebuild the structure, "Plans and architect" required. -Angie's list did NOT accept my agreement to raise the section of the deck, and working with the customer, the city, and the new builders. I said "Yes" I will do it, but it has to be SAFE for the members tenants. -Angie's list is keeping the NEGATIVE review, and threatening to post the members complaint in an upcoming news letter (or whatever you call their little publication). -I've filed complaints with an Attorney who is looking into a class action lawsuit. -By doing this, Angie's list is superseding Chicago law, and putting contractors life, career, and freedom in jeopardy. If I do the work and someone falls off and dies, I will be worse off than not complying with Angie's List. However the alternative, to have a one-sided version of a negative review (that is libelous) posted for all to read, is not acceptable either. -Angie's list has a history of bullying the little guy. If you have a similar story (Especially, regarding "the big deal" or any other billing/monetary "issues" with Angie's List), please use information published (not sure what appears after posting) to contact me. Otherwise, post a review HERE, with the title "class action law-suit against Angie's List"

Angies List Local Business Advertisement Review from Danvers, Massachusetts

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My husband is a 2nd generation roofer we advertised for years with Verizon , Yellow Pages , Idearc Media then along came Angie's List we received several jobs through Angie's List not even knowing what it was we just thought "wow" this Angie has a lot of friends then the phone calls began from Representatives. My husband agreed to advertise with Angie's List 14 years ago it was $450.00 a month for a full page ad in the magazine they mail out to members compared to the thousands we were spending advertising else where it was a drop in the bucket . As years passed Angie's List grew and one year when our advertising renewal was up they wanted $35,000.00 a year my jaw dropped my husband is not a brain surgeon we negotiated with Angie's List and got our advertising down to $1,500.00 a month and noticed a steep decline in business . In the last two years our phone has stopped ringing from Angie's list members and we have only done two jobs this year for Angie's list members , we finally asked ourselves why is this happening (I know why) we received our renewal a few days ago they are giving us a $50,000.00 discount for advertising with them and still charging us $1,500.00 a month . I called our representative and she said roofers in our area pay over $70,000.00 a year to advertise with them "now I know why our phone is not ringing" we are family owned and operated , we do not pick people off the street and put them on a roof Angie's List is sending all of the business to the roofers who are paying their astronomical fees . Angie can keep her list and we will advertise else where Angie's List just cares about lining there pockets and not about the consumers who pay to good reputable contractors . Needless to say we had an A rating every year and I am proud to say my husband deserved it .

I have a good friend that had a similar experience. They use extortion to manipulate the lists and then have the nerve to say that "no one can pay to be on the list".

Stop your paid listings immediately and make a simple wordpress "blog' website with someone like hostgator. Find someone local to help if you need. Make sure to get your own domain name and set up emails that use that name so they are more consistent with your brand. Answer your emails promptly!

Update it a lot with good information and plenty of photos of his work. Go back to old customers and get your own reviews and post them on your own site or ask them to post to Google. I did that for my friend last year.

Soon enough the phone will be ringing again and you will get more business than he can handle. And you can keep the extra 70k.

Old Angie's List claimed you couldn't pay to be on their list, complete lie.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I use to have an electical company in Central Texas. A client told me he had referred me to Angie's List. I didn't know what it was at the time. I got a call on a weekly basis from Angie's List explaining I had been referred to them by a customer. The catch was I had to pay a monthly fee, from what I could understand from the rep to be on the list. I asked them to quit calling me, I was not paying to be on any list. It appears the service has changed, but in my experience, you find the best contractors through Family and Friends.

Will not record a company's fraud unless she gets paid!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I live in Pinellas County, Florida. I tried to lodge a complaint against a company attempting to perpetrate fraud on homeowners, especially senior citizens and Angie's List would not record the complaint and attempted perpetration of a crime UNLESS I PAID FOR MEMBERSHIP!!!!!!! If anyone has to pay to report anyone trying to scam consumers, how can one trust that the contractors on her list are honest? If this doesn't work so I guess I will have to report this to local, county, State and Federal Law Enforcement. I do not know why you require us to write at least 100 words if one can make one’s input succinct.

Angie's List allows false reviews to remain on their site

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Our business has a free listing on Angie's list because some of their members reviewed our company. We have had plenty of good reviews but recently one of their members posted a completely false and negative review of our company. They complained about a service that was done at their home when we have no record of being at this customer's home in the last 4 years. I replied to the review asking Angie's list to remove it and explained why. In short, their response was that because we've acknowledged he is one of our customers, they will not remove the review even though I provided them with all of the customer's history with our company to prove that it was a false claim. The funny thing is, this is happening after I have declined repeated solicitations from Angie's List to pay for advertising on their site. One has to wonder if this is just a bully tactic by Angie's List to try to force companies to pay them for advertising. Bottom line, do not believe what you see on Angie's List. Do not trust them and if you own a business, do not allow them to bully you into paying for advertising on their list.
