Angies List - I'm a licensed contractor, Angie's list is a ***
hi, We received a call from Angie's list asking us to become a preferred contractor, that they can help us increase business by at lease double, from 100k to 200k. After a full hour of listening to the sales rep, we decided to go ahead with the program. After signing...

Angies List in Portland, Oregon - Angie Hicks promotes Known crooks

1.0
Details
Attempted to contact Angies list about known crooked HVAC Contractor they told me they had confirmed them as good I am/was an Electrical contractor doing work for this Co. and know firsthand that they are not doing the work properly, over charging, not using proper permits etc. Gave them several names to contact and they told me they had no interest in contacting them, I assume the HVAC contractor paid Angie Hicks enough to cause her to not care about the theft she condones. Angies list is a hoax they do not do the proper research or at least they don't follow up on potential changes. They were warned about a crook and told my they don't care. not a good source for reviews

Angies List in Kahului, Hawaii - Angie's List is Bogus

I hired a handyman who told me he was on Angie's List even though that is not where I found him, but I did use that as a indicator that he had been vetted by them. He did a terrible job, lied to me, bid the job at 4 times the amount of time it actually took, did the work incorrectly, not to code, and not the way I asked him to. Then he made me wait a week for him to come back to redo the job, then he didn't show up and didn't even call. So I called Angie's list to see about writing a review about the guy and they jerked me around and refused to tell me how they had rated him unless I paid them $10. I said they should be paying me for the review seeing as "honest reviews" is the only value they offer consumers. If this handyman is an example of who is on their list, then why would I want to see their list? I can get ripped off on my own without their false advertising that their list guarantees reliable workers. Total BS. Don't waste your money.

Angies List in Bradenton, Florida - Angie's List - Grossly Unfair

3.0
Details
I bought a service through this company and a few days later I found that because of a mistake in the listing, Angies List took $199. From me because they did not make sure this vendor could service the area where I live! The vendor contacted me and said he would ask to have the money returned. I waited, then tried to get my money back through Paypal because I had paid through them. Paypal denied my request because the payment was authorized. I find now that I have to ask for my money back within 30 days for a refund. Now they will give me nothing else than a credit on another deal. This is unfair and misleading in their advertising. Who is to protect me where this kind of policy is in effect? I asked for my money in 38 days, they require a request in 30 days. I will never again use this company and have asked for cancellation of my membership!

Angies List in Saint Paul, Minnesota - Can't stand Angie's List

2.0
Details
The company has been pestering me to write a review for months. I can't get them to stop. When my subscription is up, I will be glad. Also, at least some of their "deals" are complete bogus. We bought an attic inspection deal through Angie's List for about $50. After the inspection, the expert said that the entire fee that we paid for the deal went straight to Angie's List and that normally, he would do that sort of consultation for free (possibly on the condition that repairs were scheduled through his business). Of course, we didn't find this out until after we had purchased the "deal." As a guess, he might allow Angie's List to offer a "deal" on his free services in order to increase the perceived value and thus increasing the likelihood that customers will choose his business. So, maybe it's really just a wash from his perspective...but as a consumer, the deal was a complete rip off and Angie's List is responsible.

Angies List in Tulsa, Oklahoma - Ripoff Artist

They illegally charged me for a one year subscription. I complained and they said they would refund my money but never did. BEWARE I had subscribed for a one year discounted subscription and it was not the least bit helpful. Then, I called them and let them know I did not want to continue my subscription. They charged my card anyway. I could never get back my money and now I will say not only are they a sorry service for people to turn to but they are guilty of the very practice they say they will help you form getting ripped off.

Angies List in Minneapolis, Minnesota - Angie's list is a scam

I was trying to find a marriage counselor. A google search turned up Angie's list, which told me to get a subscription to see results. So I bought a subscription. Then I found out that Angie's List Health is a separate service. Paywall behind a paywall. So I sent a message to customer service, asking them to cancel my account. Never got a response. The next month I was billed again. I called to cancel my membership. The first customer service rep put me on hold about 5 times in rapid succession, then hung up on me. The second rep was at least polite and professional, but kept trying to offer me new services even though I was trying to cancel. Very frustrating experience.

I got ripped off for $1499 for a "Big Deal" on Angie's List. It's rating system doesn't seem to any longer be for the benefit of the consumer, but instead for the contractors who pay to be on their list. I've bought several "Deals" promoted by Angie's List and all have been far less than quality, as indicated by the "A" rating on Angie's List.

Angies List in Hyattsville, Maryland - Angie's Scam

I have recently moved and am looking for a painter. I looked at Craig's List, but no one stood out. So, I thought "Aha! I'll try Angie's List." Paid my money (reluctantly) and tried searching for a painter. The search was not going well. Since I was there, I thought that now that I'm here I will check out chiropractors. Whoa! More money. Already spooked by the auto renewal, I saw this as another trick. Granted, not large sums, but I bet it adds up. I think the whole charging thing is a scam. I'll stick to doing the research myself through exploring the web and word of mouth. I did get a refund, but only after they offered to exchange services and charge me 50% for the dropped service. Difficult to explain, but reassured me about the scam - ness of the List.
