Angie's List allows false reviews to remain on their site | Angies List review from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania

1.0
Details
Our business has a free listing on Angie's list because some of their members reviewed our company. We have had plenty of good reviews but recently one of their members posted a completely false and negative review of our company. They complained about a service that was done at their home when we have no record of being at this customer's home in the last 4 years. I replied to the review asking Angie's list to remove it and explained why. In short, their response was that because we've acknowledged he is one of our customers, they will not remove the review even though I provided them with all of the customer's history with our company to prove that it was a false claim. The funny thing is, this is happening after I have declined repeated solicitations from Angie's List to pay for advertising on their site. One has to wonder if this is just a bully tactic by Angie's List to try to force companies to pay them for advertising. Bottom line, do not believe what you see on Angie's List. Do not trust them and if you own a business, do not allow them to bully you into paying for advertising on their list.

We hired Desert Dry water proofing business through Angie's List. | Angies List review from Winfield, Illinois

Now 13 years later we have an issue and no way to reach Desert Dry or Kevin Velpet or Denise Lynn. Apparently they aren't in business any longer and our lifetime warranty wasn't passed on to a business that took over Desert Dry. We have called numbers in our file and no luck reaching anyone related to the business. We not only had Desert Dry do waterproofing in our home but another division of this company K.B. & Sons Installations, Timothy J Barry the owner at that time, which was another company listed with Angie's List. This company re roofed our home and detached garage that same year. That company as well is no longer in business.

Never Anything Useful | Angies List review from Oceanside, California

I have tried Angie's list twice. I subscribed once to find a plumber and 1 review each for 50 plumbers wasn't helpful. A year later I try again when I moved and needed help finding a doctor. It's an extra charge for the Medical List and it's really inadequate. Hardly any doctors are rated and they are 50 miles away. The first time I signed up, they wouldn't refund my fee. The second time, they did but I had only been signed up for 20 minutes when I canceled. Angie's list seems to be worthless. The services listed are not adequately reviewed, if they are reviewed at all. More detail is needed such as what the services charged the consumer writing a review.

Frank Ryan contracted to add room to our house. Took money ($33,000+) but did not finish job. Work was started in Sept 2014 and is not complete. We have talked to a lawyer, filed a police report, and filed a complaint to Mississippi State board of Contractors. He had...

Yes I am the aforementioned. In all fairness, this is 1 side.

First, I never misled this couple. I had done several other jobs for them prior. Under handymanI can go on and on on on each of the highlights but the bottom line is ,I did the excavation, the slab, the framing, the roof and rough in plumbing. I was out of town when the blacked in roof did leak.

I immediately went to their home when I got back. All negative but not stating I was in the rain for hours pumping water for them for to their landscaping. Sadly, I am human and bottom line was they were unhappy amd and I was fined. I regret it all and apologize.

The contractor knew first as i reported all to him.

And gave him 5000 for being contractor. So can we get this off of tge web

Don't advertise with Angie! | Angies List review from Los Angeles, California

In December I signed up for a $800 per month ad campaign where I was promised assistance in getting my AngiesList profile worked on by my personal contact at AngiesList. All I was needed to do was sign up for a year contract and get it going. Four months later I finally get contacted with "Sorry I dropped the ball" from my rep. I refused to pay for the months where I got no assistance from them but they say they ran my ad, misspellings and all. Part of the problem is that the sales rep who sold me the bill of goods in the first place did not put anything in writing. They solicit and sell on the telephone so all you can rely on is their one sided written contract. There is plenty of business to be gotten from Yelp. Stay away from Angie.

Paid for Angie's List and Didn't Receive the Service | Angies List review from Scotts Valley, California

6/25/15 I paid for Angie's List Service twice!!!(due to their software/site problems) on May 20th and still have not received access to the site despite providing proof of payment twice to them. I have sent at least 6 emails to them with no results. They are only concerned about where the $24 dollars was applied, NOT the fact that I paid for service and don't have it. And my problem and the reason I decided to use Angie's list recommendations goes unresolved, namely looking for someone who can fix my collapsing retaining wall. Very ironic that instead on rating business on Angie's List, I'm rating the site itself and the poor resolution to a customer compliant! I Rate them: Lousy

What Chutzpah! | Angies List review from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

After multiple emails offering me a free membership to Angie's List, I suddenly found $14.72 on my charge card last month. I have not been a member for the past 3 years, after a disastrous experience with a "highly" recommended moving company on Angie's List! Johnson Moving and Storage of Charleston SC sent three inexperience boys to move us three miles away. Many hours later, Mr. Johnson threatened to take our furniture away if we did not pay the outrageous moving bill. The movers were smoking on the job. Got "lost" for several hours going the three miles to our new home. Then left damaged furniture in a heap in the house. I should renew my membership after this experience? After a call to Angie yesterday, I found out that they automatically renewed my membership. I guess they didn't get the message that I didn't want any part of their list! I will also be contacting my charge card company for authorizing a charge on an expired card.

You gotta dig deep... | Angies List review from Austin, Texas

They don't assess "work not performed" at the same level as completed work. This basically means that if a contractor jacks you around for weeks, months, whatever, telling you that they are going to do the work, will be there tomorrow, and "no showing" again and again, they don't really get penalized. According to the people in Angie's List offices, it requires 8 "F"s from contractors like the one described above, to equal 1 "A" from work performed. My time is valuable, and thinking that you've found someone to perform the work, taking time away from my schedule to meet them, as well as not looking for anyone else since I thought I had it covered. I wasted almost 4 months with one of their contractors being treated this way. In looking over all of his reviews, he did this periodically with a number of people, but is still given an "A" rating. I think this treatment is every bit as bad as poor service, and should be rated accordingly.

A SCAM | Angies List review from North Port, Florida

So I just discovered Angie's List for businesses is a scam! Basically you have to get your current or past clients to join there membership in order for them to give you a review. Until then your business will not show up when members are searching for your service you provide. But this is not what they told me when I started. They said even outside reviews would get me on the list. So I did that. Got a few awesome reviews from my very sweet kind clients. Called to check my status, and now they tell me the real truth...... My outside reviews don't count! They have to be or become a member. REALLY???? You want me to solicit my clients to come to you for a membership they don't want and they have to pay for, just to give me a review!!!!! A shady small pyramid scheme maybe. I don't know but this world becomes more and more dishonest and ugly everyday. BEWARE OF ANGIE'S LIST !!!!!!!
