Angie lists crooks

Angie's List, which I paid for the first year but did not renew, lists American Solar Solution, which is owned by out-and-out-criminals who use Angie's halo object to *** potential customers and employees who don't get paid. It's that last matter where I myself have some experience. It was the galling experience of being told by an Angie's List representative, "Good luck in getting paid!" Angie apparently had not bothered to investigate the company itself which has hundreds of complaints on-line. It is this kind of research that one might think one is paying Angie for, just as one subscribes to _Consumer Reports_ for hard data. American Solar Solution, whose initials say it all, has an office in North Hollywood.

Angie's commercial

It seems to me that just a few short years ago Angie's commercial was much different. She seemed to end each one with "no company can pay to be on Angie's list" Yet it seems that that is all they are about now, advertising. I think "truth in advertising" should pertain to everyone, especially those the profess honesty, but clearly are not. How can anyone believe in a company that says they are the stop gap between contractors and consumers when they are just as deceptive as the bad contractors they represent. Do we know if this Angie is even the real owner or just a paid actor like Flo on the progressive commercial?

As an honest business (no longer in operation), I saw over the years, that to the contractor, they were quite aggressive as opposed to their beginnings, trying to solicit advertising money in various forms (skirting the rules), and basically negating their entire purpose with all the new strategy. I refused to continue using AL, even though the lack of recent good reports made us look bad.

When clients asked if we'd like an AL review from them, we politely said "no that's ok...a letter of recommendation perhaps.." and continued by referrals to gain new clients.

There's much more... but I should write my own complaint!

Overall rip off!

I joined Angie's List when we were redoing our kitchen. I found very few reviews in our area that would help. The fee was only $12 so I wasn't too upset. A year later, my credit card was charged $29 for the next year. I did not know it would automatically be charged. I called and after coercion, they said they would refund my money for this year. It is a month later, and my money still has not been refunded. I called twice. They said it is because of the banks. Yesterday, I wrote to them again. If you try to write via the internet, you immediately get plugged into their live chat. The person said my account was cancelled, but was wishy washy about my refund. I told them that if I didn't get a credit immediately, I was posting on the internet. I also filed a complaint with my credit card company.

I joined Angie's list 3 years ago. Got no real value from it so when they sent me a renewal notice a year after the initial sign up and I trashed it because I found no benefit to their services during the first year and had no intention of renewing.

I thought it was long gone and done because I didn't agree to renew but today, 2 years after the initial subscription expired we found a $39 charge on our credit card from them. They have been charging us for the past 2 years and we missed the first charge but caught the 2nd one. I am so upset with them, they auto renewed us without our permission and under our new credit card information (that took effort!). There should be a law against that kind of action.

I contacted them and they will only give me back this most recent $39 charge and not last years $39.

Angies's list is a rip off (even when you order their services its value is null but to keep recharging a credit card without confirmation is simply crooked and intentional theft).

Angie's List is a complete scam. They don't verify and check the contractors.Contractors are solicited to buy expensive advertising in exchange to have access to their mailing list. There (big deal) discount contractor advertise on Angie's List 2,600. to have entire house painted but when the company came out they said it was 12,000. dollars because of the size of the house. Did further checking on the company turns out they had lawsuits and many complaints with the BBB and other Internet sites. But yet angies list sent them to give us a bid, what a joke.they make the majority of their money from selling advertisement to contractors and getting contractors to give them their customer list. What good is it if angies list does not verify and check the company's overall record.Angie's List takes no responsibility for the quality of the workmanship or does any real verification as to the legitimacy and competency of the company.Consumer Reports and Wall Street Journal say to stay away from angies list. Look up complaints about angies list, you will be shocked at how bad it is. It's bad enough being taken by the contractor now I get taken by the company that gives me the contractor.I guess profits are more important than anything

Roofer tried to overcharge then denied warranty.

Angies list is a scam. I had a roofer on the list bargain with me for my business by allowing me to do some work myself for deductible. I can do the work with help from friends. the agreement was they repair my house roof, then strip separate garage and shed. they then supply materials and I finish. They also wrote up a bundle of other things in the est. when all was said and done I replaced inside living room ceiling, reshingled garage, and had to strip shed because they wouldn't and reshingle it. I also was only supplied enough supplies to do 1/3 of garage, none for shed. I then had to reside shed/buy materials. paid out of pocket (c/c) for the rest. They sent me a form to fill out for angies list????" I didn't. I added up the work they did compared to their est. I then paid what I owed for what they had done including partial supplies. I explained payment with no argument.

THEIR WORK WAS SHODDY, i HAD TO MAKE REPAIRS TO THEIR REPAIRS.

A few weeks later it snowed/iced and my porch and back room leaked. I called and was told my warranty was void because I did not pay all insurance money. In other words I dont pay deductible ( I find out later insurance fraud) and do 3/4 of the work out of pocket and they collect all insurance money for their 1/4 of shoddy work????????

They send a form for angies, list knowing I am not going to pay to join, and if I leave a bad feedback I'm sure it wont get sent.

SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!

This guy and his company isn't even registered with the state or county. His license is probably fake and he isn't bonded. But those who choose to work with this scam artist, good luck to you when you encounter problems!!

Guest

First, this is John Luke.

I would like to thank all the people that are standing up for me and my company.

At this point I would like to ask you to stop. It means the world to me that you would do this, but at this point it is getting out of hand, as well as playing into the game they are trying to play. If any of my present or current customers read this, please look at other legitimate places for your references on me. I can provide numbers and jobs for you to look at.

I made a mistake and choose to be with someone that is capable and vindictive enough to be like this towards me, my company, and employees.

Yes I have made mistakes in business, but I drive to better myself everyday even though I deal with situations like this. Thank you and I hope you have a great day.

You suck

Guest

This guy sounds pathetic. He's posting his personal issues on a website when he should be clarifying why he's such a shady contractor.

Guest

This is crazy and so is the person doing the harassment ... You have any questions you can contact him yourself.

In no way should anyone waste anymore time on this page. His phone number is as he put -817-308-****. I'm positive he can clear up any of this and even show you how this harassment continues.

It's truly a shame. Have a nice day!

Guest

One would only need to use the same roofing company because they couldn't fix it right the first time.

Guest

It's sad to see such a page wasted. I am one of his customers & have known him for years.

This same negative person has contacted me as well. I knew it was lies, he contacted me again and let me know she's back at it. I have no such complaints and would recommend him even to my family. Sad to see a hard working person go through this when there are true scams being done.

In fact this post itself is a scam.

Hope this stops it's ridiculous, and shouldn't be allowed! As others said this is against the law

Cancelled membership but can't get my money back.

After returning from vacation, I called Angie's List to cancel my membership. They had charged my Paypal account the night before and promised that a credit would be completed that day. Two weeks later the money was still not in my Paypal account so I called back and spoke with Keegan who said my money was returned via a return number I was given. Waiting two more weeks with no money returned, I filed a complaint with Paypal but have heard nothing yet. I would not recommend giving them your Paypal account to charge for the initial fee nor a credit card. Manage My Subscriptions Primary Subscription Your Membership is Currently Expired! Paid my dues and never did my review of services posted

I had REBATH of Colorado do a terrible job in a remodeling of a shower. I paid dues to Angies list. Posted my review so I could warn others of the scam that REBATH was doing. My review was never posted for anyone to see. Angie has what they call a "CUT LIST" you post a review of a company that advertises with Angie, she will not post the review. (Don't want to loose the advertising money" You call and ask why is the review posted. They tell you, it's on our cut list. you can post the review but nobody can read about it. Don't waste your money on Angie, get a reputable company from the BBB.

Review from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I submitted a negative review about a contractor. That contractor had other negative reviews from others. When I later searched Angie's List to see if that contractor had any more reviews, that contractor could not be found on the list and had zero reviews listed. When I contacted an Angie's List rep TWICE, they said the same thing. They said that the contractor was removed because he had too many bad reviews. I told them that people need to see these reviews so that they know who they are hiring. If you simply erase them from the list most people will assume that the must be OK because there are no negative reviews. Angie's List is doing poor contractors a favor by erasing the bad reviews. All the reps said was "I understand what you're saying but that's our policy." So I asked for my money back. What a joke!

Angies List - Customer Care Review

They are definitely corrupt and a scam! They called me as soon as I got a bad review which was from someone that had never been a customer of mine. They don't verify if people have actually used the service or not. They try to get you to buy good reviews from them to push down the bad review. I hope there is a class action against this piece of *** company I will definitely join in!

Very Deceptive practices!

I was new to Odessa, TX and trying to find a physician. While researching, Angie's List ads kept popping up saying "Read reviews of Dr.

So and So on Angie's List". I finally decided to sign up. After I did, the specific doctors listed in her google ads were not listed at all on her site. I consider that false advertising.

Since I had signed up for a year, I decided to use for other services. I found very little and thought that it was just the Midland/Odessa area. But I spoke with my sister who lives in the Dallas area and she said she found very few listings for handyman type services so she cancelled. That's pretty bad if the Dallas metroplex is lacking.

I hired a web designer based on glowing reviews on Angies List.

She was horrible. I thought the people that gave her good reviews must have been very easy to please. Now I am reading about negative reviews being removed from businesses that pay for a better listing. I stopped even trying to use Angie's list anymore.

After a year, I saw that they pulled an annual enrollment fee from my PayPal account.

I was not aware that I was set up on autopay.

I sure wouldn't want my personal name and face associated with such deceptive practices. I can't believe she has the nerve to advertise on national TV!

I am already in the lawyer contact phase about suing angies list over refusal to remove personal info from there website and regarding false bad reviews. I have nothing else to say but this thing is making me write more in order to post.

Paid For Submitting Reviews on Angies List

After joining Angies List I kept getting email requests to evaluate companies I had never done business with. Finally I received an email saying that Angies List would pay me $25.00 if I posted reviews on at least three auto repair shops in my area. I complied (one I hadn't done business with for years) and received my $25.00 Visa card. I recently read where Angies List has reported significantly lower revenue and profit than expected. I believe that the Angies List "business model" is not being executed in a truthful, honest way, and would recommend that neither businesses nor customers are getting treated with honesty and professionalism. I believe we will see the demise or takeover of AL within several years, as other methods of getting honest opinions of businesses emerge.

Reviews from contractors family members

When Angie's List was first starting up in our area you could 'join' for free for a year, so I did. Since I thought it was a good idea, I posted reviews for just about every business I had done business with recently--hair dresses, florists, veterinarian, doctors, dentist, plumber--anybody I had used in the last 6 months or so. Then, I needed a 'handyman' kind of contractor to do a couple of smaller jobs around my house. The top rated handyman had 4 reviews--all excellent. But, before I called him I did a google search to see if I could find any further information or reviews and discovered that at least 3 of those 4 excellent reviews came from the handyman's family, but that was not mentioned or revealed in the review! Now, he may have actually done work for them, and it may have been very good work, however I didn't necessarily think they were trustworthy, and certainly not impartial reviews, so I didn't call him and when the free year was up, I didn't renew my paid membership. I'm not going to pay to read reviews that I don't feel at all confident that I can trust!

Angies list does not follow up on negative reviews.

Anyone who joins or not can give a review of a company. Bad experience when a client (who by the way signed up off on a contract job stating how great everything looked) wrote a bad review when it came time to pay our company for the completed services. Contacted Angie's List discussed that our company could prove reviewer had signed off on completed project and started how great it looked. They would not entertain looking at documents or reversing review. Shame on Angie's List they have a responsibility to look at damaging reviews and make sure their members are informed correctly

Angie's list is all about themselves and making money.

I signed up with Angie's list over 3 months ago after getting a call from their marketing team. They said if I paid them $120 a month 10,000 people would see my companies name. I said great sign me up. Well after 3 months I have not gotten any calls through Angie's list, no new customers. But I get calls from Angie's list Marketing team every week wanting me to sign up for all these other ads. They even want me to release all my customers info to them so they can get reviews from them, but all their concerned with is landing more Angie's list members. What a scam. Paying thousands of dollars for a referral. Its alot cheaper and more guaranteed to just buy your customers gift cards for their word of mouth. So I canceled my Angie's list ad. I paid a total of $700 in 3 months for absolutely nothing. Should've just went to the casino. Screw Angie's list, and all the businesses that are doing the same thing. Legal fraud, selling hard working contractors a pipe dream.

Companies gaming their reviews

I was an Angie's List subscriber for about one year. Towards the end of my subscription, I used one of their better reviewed pool companies to close my swimming pool. They were not all that great and actually damaged one of the pipe fittings. Then when we were done, the worker told me that they got almost all their referrals through Angie's List and if I gave the company a good review on Angie's List, they'd verify it and later send my a coupon good for a discount on future service. I complained to Angie's List about this and absolutely nothing was done.
