Angies List review in Southfield, Michigan: Unreliable Reviews and Renewal Without Permission

They just renewed without my permission other times, they would ask and i would renew when I was ready to. This time, they renewed with no warning. I sent them an email requesting that they credit my account because I have not used them in months and I also filed a complaint with my bank. I lost trust in Angie's List when a very highly rated roofing contractor did a very poor job with a tear off. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau and with angie's list. Long story short, the contractor gave me a full refund -- return the entire $6K, and now I have to find a new roofing company. This complaint remains with the better business bureau for three years, yet angie's list deleted the complaint because it was "resolved". So the popular roofing company keeps it's A rating. I've lost all trust in her rating system and no longer want to be a member.

Angies List review in Amarillo, Texas: The service is worthless in my community

3.0
Details
Angie's List (AL) does not offer a trial membership or I would have never joined. I was looking for some household help in a community of over 200,000. I joined AL and it lists exactly one (1), that is right, one (1) reviewed maid service. Had AL let me know how many maid service reviews it had in my area, I would have never wasted my money. And, now after reading reviews on this site I have to worry that AL will scam me by auto renewal. It is always a beating dealing with folks that are all about the profit.

Angies List review in Fremont, California: Being pimped?

1.0
Details
I signed up for Angie's List because I needed a tree downed without taking our home down. The selected company did a fine job. Now, nearly every day I am getting one, sometimes two, occasionally three cold calls from contractors offering all manner of services. I ask how they got my number and they are always evasive. When I tell them that we are unlisted and not on the voters' register, but I would really like to know their source, they ring off. The only common thread is that if I ask "Are you on Angie's List?", they excitedly confirm. So I feel that Angie's List is pimping me. No easy way to usefully discuss with Angie's List folk. The only way forward seems to be for me to assure all such callers that NO WAY will I be employing someone on Angie's List. Should give them food for thought.

While working for a contractor, I had suspected Angie's List was mostly a bogus deal as their commercials say "you can't buy your way onto Angie's List" but yet they continuously solicited us for advertising. According to them, the reviews were real and they would not...

Angies List review in Albany, Georgia: Unethical referrals to the general public

Angies list doesn't require a contractor to be insured that they refere to the public. One of my competitors contracted to do a job with one of my customers because my customer thought that my competitor was above board and fully insured because of Angies List referring them. This competitor doesn't carry any workers comp which puts the property owners at risk if there is a injury while work is performed by employes. This means that the employ can persue legal actions against both the property owner and employer for liability if there injured and there is no workers comp coverage . This is wrong and unethical of Angies List to refere businesses that are uninsured just because they are paid for the referrals. GENERAL PLEASE READ THIS

Angies list don't require there contractor referals to be insured , just want to be paid for referals

Angies list is unethical in referring businesses to the public. They do not require the businesses signed up for referrals to the public to be insured . I had a customer that contracted with a competitor due to the fact that they thought the competitor was above board because angies list refered them when in fact they are not fully insured . the competitor dosnt carry workers comp and with the number of employes they have it is required by law. this puts the property owners at great risk and is very unethical of angies list to refere a business that is not fully insured and may even not have a liscence. THIS IS FOR THE PUBLIC . Angies List will refere any business even if they are not a legal or legit business as long as that business pays them. this should be stopped for the general publics protection.

Angies list automatically renews your membership even if you don't want that but are unaware. There was not a single message ahead of time suggesting this would happen. This is very very sneaky and unethical. In fact all their spam messages strategically ceased a few...

I just had my membership renewed with my authorization or prior notification from Angie's List. I called customer service to immediately to request a refund.

I asked why they automatically renewed without notifying the clients. I was told they found their customers usually prefer not to be notified about renewals ahead of time.

I wonder which customers they're referring to. Very bad business practice, shame on Angie's List.

Each of top rated contractors from Angie's List I worked with is terrible, they charged unbelievable expensive. They may charge you totally different than they quote you on phone.

After all bad experiences, of course, I won't renew my membership, but Angie's List renew my membership without any warning or my permission. It's a terrible company...
