Angie's list won't let you post your reviews

I have a non-paid membership of angie's list. I was trying to post my unhappy experience with colony tire where I had my work done. It has been 5 days since I submitted my reivew and its status is still "in process", I also checked the review history of colony tire on angie's list, it has all together 3 reviews in 3 years, apparently angie's list is "too busy". Angie's list also advertises for the company, all 3 reviews listed there are "5 stars". Angie's list is just a business ads website, it wonot let consumers post reviews unless they pay more.

Is this a scam?

I joined Angie's list to find a dentist in my area. Listed were dentist but none had reviews! It was a waste of time. I cancelled the membership the same day I joined & did not receive any refund. I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happened to & makes me think that this is another way Angie is making money. Most companies will refund for dis-satifaction. I know the membership fee is non-refundable but I would think I would have got it back since I cancelled the same day & it didn't help me at all

Angie's List Lies about nobody paying to be on their website

Angie's List says on all of their national commercials that no one pays to be on their List. Well, if you want to be 500 on Angie's List, this is true. But if you want to get on the front page or the top 10 listing, YOU PAY! $500 and up per month. And when a customer writes a bad review there is nothing you can do about it, even if all the facts in the review are false. I have never met with them, they did not check my contractor's licenses, insurance, nothing. It's really a scam. Don't waste your money.

Angie's list keeps billing me. I called them and they said they would notify me before they billed me and did not.

I contacted Pay Pal who could not reverse the charges. Pay Pay said in future they will not let the billing go through. That will be year 2014. We will see.

BUYER BEWARE OF ANGIE's LIST.

They are not still in business because they have something good to offer, but because they

Just keep billing people without their permission. They seem to be Crooks.

Big deal was only a down payment

I purchased a Big Deal from Angie's List for 2 hours of labor for $99. A $172 value with a $73 savings. Anything over an above was at the regular rate. I thought this was acceptable. I got my estimate and at the time everything looked right, so I booked the job. Then when the job was completed, I noticed that they had only deducted the $99, what I paid for the coupon, from the full amount. I was also suppose to get a 10% discount, too, from the contractor, but didn't and didn't bother to pursue it. Basically, all I did was pay a down payment to Angie's List. I tried to explain to the contractor what it should have been, but gave me all kinds of excuses and BS reasoning to justify how it was billed. He said that they were a flat rate company and didn't bill hourly. I have to wonder how you can offer an hourly rate discount when you don't use hourly rates. Personally, in my opinion, I think he realized the error and didn't want to issue a refund for what the savings difference was. I also contacted Angie's list about this and it was thrown back to the contractor since they, according to the Angie's List rep, write the coupon themselves and submit it. So, in my opinion, it seems like Angie's List condones false advertising, or bait and switch type ads. Makes me wonder if they even review the ad for clarity.

Angies List For Reviews You May Not Be Able To TRUST!

August 27 2012 I noticed a competitor using Fake Home Improvement numbers on Angies List. I got curious and checked the Maryland’s State business charter, to my surprise they were “Not In Good Standing” and their business license was “Forfeited” as well as not being a Home Improvement Contractor, required by Md. State Law for the work they perform. I took screen shots of this information and sent them to Angies List Trade Licensing. You would think that a company blatantly using “Fraudulent” &”Deceitful” licensing information would be grounds for instant removal from their paid membership review site… well you’d be wrong! Not only did they not remove this company for Blatantly Fraudulent & Deceitful practice, but they rewarded them with their “Convenient” 2012 Super Service Award! There by delivering more traffic to this companies “Big Deal” which Angies List makes 25% off of the sale. Pretty Outrageous and not quite what paying members would expect? Yes they did request the service provider to provide their licensing information, but gave them 4 MONTHS to do so, and all this company has to do is show is intent that they are working on it to get an extension!… and extension!… and extension!…Following is the email sent to me after I’ve hounded them for months over this. From: Ben M. on behalf of TradeLicensing Sent: Friday, December 14, 2012 9:12 AM To: Jason N.l Account Rep Subject: RE: How long will American Tub & Tile have to keep advertising? HI Jason, American Tub & Tile has till 1/20/2013 provided we don’t give them an extension should they show an intent that they are working on it. Sincerely, Ben M. Angie’s List Trade Licensing (tradelicensing@***.com) 1(86*) 915-**** Meanwhile Paying Angies List Members are being EXPOSED to a completely unlicensed company operating illegally showing deceitful and fraudulent behavior. As well you’d better hope an employee of theirs does not get hurt on your property, should they not have Workman’s Comp means, you the homeowner will be sued and responsible for any injuries. Angies List advertises that no company can pay to be on Angies List for reviews you can trust. But what you don’t know is they collect paid membership from you and then have multiple streams to collect revenue from the contractors who are on the list. Charge us 25% of the sale for any “BIG DEAL” offers. Charge us for top placement. Charge us for placement in their monthly magazine. Charge us for a Store Front on their Web Site. Charge us for mailing campaigns. Charge us to be found by keyword. Believe me Angies List is working both sides of this street.

For gardeners just drive around your neighborhood until you find a nice house. Talk to the homeowner and you should be good to go.

For larger jobs does the company have a web site. Most important of all is whether or not the contractor will give you the telephone numbers of five recent customers and if those customers are happy enough o let you come look at the work. In my experience if the phone review is great than they should want to let you see the contractor's work. If it is great and "no" on more than one out of the five you have just talked with his friends and family talk plan.

BBB is a scam as well. Businesses pay to be on it and it only shows problems that are resolved. They can also be "convinced" to take negative complaints off. Anything for profit will suffer from this problem.

Keep it simple. Get three names and do the above and it will be much harder to go wrong.

Then if you are unhappy Yelp or ANGI it for free... Good luck!

steve L Eyz

Your submission was very informative. I always wondered how Angies List worked and now I know.

Nothing like word of mouth to generate new and repeat business.

And to warn people away from scams like Angie's. Thanks for the heads up and best of luck to you.

Limited access to reviews

I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana which is in the northern half of the state. I attempted to search for medical practices in Indianapolis Indiana because it is a larger market. It seems the policy is that you can only get information about your specific local. i had no idea when i joined that my searches would be so limited or limited at all expect for the time frame of my membership. I will be putting out the word about this policy that is not explained or disclosed before joining. I certainly will not be leaving any further reviews or renewing my membership.

Angie's List

I used Angie's List once. I was not happy with the service I received (rug cleaning) and was called several times to write a review and then called for questions about the review. I assumed (shame on me) that I would be notified when it was time to renew. Then I saw a renewal fee on my credit card. So I contacted them. Another hassle. Have to pay another year's service for nothing because I didn't contact them the day before. They are sending me a notice in June 2014 to notify me 30 days in advance of my renewal date. Whoop-de-do.

Angie list is worthless

You have NOTHING on the companies I am looking to hire. One has been in business 25 years, the other is well known to menards and lowes, but you have NOTHING. Angie's list is like throwing your money out the window. Do Not Use! Any why to I have to input 100 words. You protect Angies list from compliants. My goal is to spread the word the old fashion way, word of mouth. This is a worthless. Do not buy or use Angie list. It's a major rip off. A waste of money and time. Do not use, do not buy, do not waste your time.

This is what is wrong with Angie's List. My company is on Angie's List with some nice reviews, but, we get a lot of calls from people who do not even know what we specialize in.

On the Angie's List site, there is no where for the company to display the product they are offering and provide pictures of it etc.

In short, we get calls for people who are looking for other products in which we have to refer them to someone else. This costs us time, gas and money.

Angies List is a SCAM

I own a business which is listed on Angies List. If you get a certain number of positive reviews you can run specials on Angies List. I reached out to all of my customers, my Twitter account, my linked in and my Facebook page. No one was a current customer of Angies List but they agreed to go there and write a positive review. To my shock and horror Angies List deleted all the positive comments. I called them and asked why they did this and they said "someone posting a positive comment on Angies List needs to be a paid subscriber". I said do they need to be a paid subscriber to write a bad review? Again to my horror they said "no they don't". I said so anyone can write a bad review but only paid customers can write good reviews? They said that is correct. I said how many paid subscribers do you have? They said 2 million. I said well that's a lot. How many in Michigan? 25,000. Only 25,000? How do I find a current customer in a population of 10 million that subscribes to Angies List? This is where the scam comes in! They told me and I quote: "what you do is take $50.00 off the customers bill and tell them to go join Angies List and write a good review for you. It will only cost them $37.00 and they can keep the $13 for their effort, you're doing your customer a good service". I was outraged. I said so you want me to pay my customers to write a good review? You're kidding me right? So go look at a contractor who has a bunch of good reviews and chances are really high the contractor paid the customer (assuming $50) to write a good review. How is that accurate? The thing is a scam

I was looking for a service provider and found one that had at least four times the number of good reviews than the next listed one. When I contacted them and did some research I found why. Here's just a couple of things I found:

1. They have no license. It's apparently not required for their type of business. Fine, but when I looked at his site it says its because Orange County, CA charges $500 for one. If it was my business and I was supposedly doing so great, I would get the license in a heartbeat to reassure customers. And I sure wouldn't put that on my site!

2. He has a coupon for 10% off. Well, come to find out, you get your 10% back AFTER writing a review. Who would write a negative review? Although you would think even if it was a neg review he'd be obligated to return the 10% to the customer. Who knows? Needless to say I didn't use the company

I called Angie's and told them of my concerns. This is when I still thought Angie's list was on the legit. Of course they did nothing about this guy's dubious business practices; they said they'd "look into it." Yeah, right. He probably can't get the license because he pays Angie's so much! The 10% refund is nothing but plain ole bribery! :(

This is when I started to have misgivings and dug a bit deeper. Now the fun thing will be trying to cancel my membership. I've read that's it's about as hard as winning the lottery!

I can't take those Angie's List commercials anymore. They have got the freakiest looking people on them.

There are so many free options to their list.

Try Redbeacon, owned by Home Depot or Home Advisors. When it comes to medical issues, word of mouth or references from your doctor is the best.

I worked for a contractor who got an undeserved bad review. It was extremely hard to get it fixed.

So he decided to fix it his own way. He offered a $200 rebate off every job for an A/B grade report. That lady who wrote the bad report just started a great advertisement for us.

We were so busy after that. Lol I wished she knew what she actually done.

Angies List Compliant Resolution a Scam!

Updated by user Jan 27, 2013

Since you can only add and not edit here on top is edited compliant:

Dentist capped the wrong tooth for my wife and Angie’s list did not back us up and won't let me give him a “F rating".

New to the area we picked a dentist off Angie's List with an A rating. My wife wanted crowns on teeth 22 and 29 She also had a loose crown on 31, that needed to be re-cemented. We both had initial consults in July 2012.

On August 28, 2013, the dentist prepared number 22 for crown and then told his assistant to have my wife chew on some sticky substance to take the loose crown off. (a month, or so later, a crown on 30 came off too, this sticky stuff loosened it too…our new dentist re-cemented that one--cost the insurance companies about $140.00 more). Then his assistant then took impression for the new crown on 22.

Apparently, there was a miss-communication between Dr. Black, the dentist, and his assistant. We later discovered, that night, she had made two temp crowns for 22 and 31 and sent my wife on her way and threw the good crown on 31 away.

When we got home that night and the Lancing wore off, .the crown on 31 broke in half and came off. It was then that my wife realized what happened.

On the return visit, She confronted the dentist...he got all nervous...probably first he realized what happened, and grabbed his assistant, and without an answering my wife he left the treatment room with his assistant.

When he returned they insisted they were supposed to do 22 and 31 in the first place. even claimed she did not understand because she speaks with an Asian accent, She has been here over 30 years, and was a “Certified and Licensed Nurse’s Assistant” prior to retirement.

Moreover, I met Dr. Black first, for my consult, the same day, I told him too, we put 31 on with temp cement and it needed to be re-cemented with permanent cement.

Moreover, the very same day, after the initial consults, his assistant met with us and explained the treatment plan and course of action for both of us. She said they couldn't do both 22 and 29 in the same visit, as they were on opposite sides of the mouth, it was against their policy to numb the whole jaw at once. It would require two visits to prep them. As for me, they needed to submit a treatment plan to the insurance companies first, as I needed a six unit bridge replaced. To bad, they didn’t have to do that for my wife.

But now look…they said that was the plan all along to prep both 22 and 31 in the same visit…refusing to admit their error.

I asked to see Dr. Black, the day they put the crowns on 22 and 31 and after he refused to admit his error. The assistant came back out, to the waiting error and said he was to busy with patients to meet, with me. I said have him call me then. After a week, I called him, and the staff transferred me to voice mail, I left a message, asking him to call me again. No reply, now it is January 2013.

My wife and I prepared a 3 page, type written letter, explaining everything to all, insurance plans, Angie’s List, and Bank of America, Visa.

We asked BofA, to stop the $598.00 payment. We had make up front as Dr. Black‘s staff said it was their policy to only bill one insurance, and we would have to bill the second one, after the first one paid them. But Dr. Black‘s office ended up billing them both in the end too.

While BofA’s representative, said it never got answer from Dr. Black...about 2 months later, we received a letter from BofA, it said without another dentist’s second opinion, even though it never got a reply from Dr. Black, it’s “FIA” group said it had to pay .him anyway.

Our two Dental plans, GEHA High Option and Delta Dental Premiere, were sent letters by us and asked to investigate and withhold payment. They both paid him, the left hand did not know what the right was doing.

Angie's List got a letter too. According to Angie’s list representative, Noel, it had asked d Dr. Black for his side twice, and never got a response, to date.

\

Last week, I received a check, dated January 14, 2013, from Dr. Black's billing office for $1006.00, “Insurance/Patient Refund.”

The insurance companies overpaid him. The caps were $1,150 each, per bills to the insurance companies…they each paid more than half, or $2708.00. So we got our Visa $598 back, plus the $408.00 over paid by the insurance companies.

Angie’s List’s representative, Noel, said this was a settlement and took Dr. Black out of the penalty box and won’t let me give him and F.

I explained to Noel in three emails, that his was money, we would have gotten back, once the insurance companies paid for the caps. It was earnest money, my wife was made to pay up front. Not a settlement. I told him the fact remains, Dr. Black capped the wrong tooth, threw the good one way, and 29 now needs to be capped by our new dentist.

Meanwhile, Dr. Black’s bills to the insurance companies, state he found decay under 31 in preparing for a crown too. He never touched that tooth, except to cement the new crown on, after the fact.

I got all our x-rays back from Dr. Black’s office the same day, he delivered the crowns and refused to talk to me. I also asked for the model of the impressions, so I could take it back to Maryland for comparison. The assistant said she was told not to give them to us.

In December, I had our new dentist look at the pre treatment x-ray of 31, that Dr. Black took, with the old crown in place, with the temp cement, we got at CVS. The new dentist said it looked good, margins were good and no sign of decay that he could see.

Angie's List insist that it was a settlement and refuses to let me give him a F rating and has removed him from the penalty box.

I asked this Noel, how much do these contractors pay you to get on the list, obviously you are more concerned about protecting the contractors, then your subscribers.

This is great disservice-service to anyone who might choose this Dentist from your list in the future.

I even asked to speak to Angie, if there is one. Twice I asked how much does Dr. Black pay to be on the list. Noel never answered that question.

My wife got nothing for pain and suffering or the ordeal.

Moreover, I have since learned the dental assistant, by law or regulation, should not have been permitted to remove the crown on the 31 in the first place.

I asked Noel to cancel my subscription and refund my money…waiting for answer on that one.

I have filed for $25.00, with ConsumerComplaints.Com, posted to Facebook and Twitter and next step will be with Medical Review Board of Florida, pending Dr. Black’s reply Consumercompliants.com.

While I also contacted Morgan and Morgan, it’s lawyer, who is also a DDS ,called to advise me you can not sue for pain and suffering in Florida, the laws here protect the Dentist, not the patient. So there is no incentive for them to get involved.

Deceptive practice

We pay a premium price to advertise our Moving, Storage and Packing services with Angie's List. In December 2012 someone named John T. filed a false claim, charging our company with a hit and run driving accident with his vehicle. The claim was false and was denied by our insurance company for lack of proof. The accident never happened. John T. submitted a poor view of our Moving services on Angie's List, which we pay to promote our moving and storage services. When I noticed the review, I spoke with Trevor and Finally Jason White to have the poor review removed. Angie's List refused to remove the review, even though I sent evidence to prove that we were in no way involved in an accident with John T. Angie's List complies a rating based upon the following factors in their reviews: "Price, Quality, Responsiveness, Punctuality and Professionalism" . Since we did not provide services to John T. we should not be subjected to an overall rating of "F". We have asked Angie's List to remove the bogus review, and they said that the review will remain because the person writing the review "owns" the review -- this explanation is unsatisfactory and our reputation has been defiled as a result.

Angies list is a scam

Angies list works out these deals of the day with companies. I paid $119 for this deal only to get a run around from the contractor and a waste of six weeks. When I placed a negative review, angies list refused to post the F rating. I can see from other sites that there are new people from angies list getting stuck by this same contractor. Angies list is still offering a "deal" with this contractor despite the F ratings and reviews. Angies list was created to provide honest reviews but can't when they go into business with vendors and contractors. I would not recommend angies list because they are not impartial.

I agree I signed up and paid, I thought it would give me details of good businesses. The info was terrible, I got better results from google.

The one business I found actually close 3 months prior, so far it’s been a waste of money just a scam. I have cancelled my subscription now, and will use only google for reviews.

Lindsay Honda, 5805 Scarborough Blvd, Columbus, OH 43232

I shopped for and purchased a used car from Lindsay Honda and have never dealt with so much incompetence in my life. From the beginning, they had my address wrong and even though I told them about it repeatedly, they still did not get it right until it was time for me to pick up the temporary title ... when I told them the document they wanted to give me was useless as it was incorrect.

Additionally, they sent me home from the dealership with only one key ... stating that the previous owner still had not given them the other two keys. Ten days later, I was finally able to get one other key from them but the valet key was never given to me, so now I'm driving around in a car that the previous owner still has a key to and apparently has no intent to give up. What's with that?

Four days prior to the 30-day tag expiring, I called the dealership to ask when I would be receiving the temporary title needed for me to transfer my tags. They informed me that the previous owner still had not turned it over to them!

I will never step foot on their lot again ... will take my car to any other Honda dealership rather than deal with such stupidity and incompetence again. I will have my vehicle serviced elsewhere and would reccommend that anyone interested in purchasing a Honda make a wide circle around this place.

Angie's List is no better than other scam sites.

I signed up for Angie's List months ago to check it out. They had no listings within 50 miles of me, and when I entered my address I was told I lived in the smallest of 4 communities within our county. Then, I was inundated with emails. When I went to unsubscribe, the button mysteriously glitched everytime I moused over it. Upon seeking to cancel my account, I found out I had to call or email them. I emailed, requesting that my account be deleted. I was told that my account "would not be renewed" and that since their email lists are "prepopulated" (read: sold to third parties), I might continue to receive emails. I'm currently waiting to find out if my account is going to be canceled, or if it's going to remain "active" in their database for another 5 months so that they can get advertising dollars off of their number of users. Even when you don't have to pay for it, it's a scam.

Do not believe them. I don't know what method you used to pay them, but they will try to put the charge through.

You need to call the credit card company or your bank and talk to them. Get the person's name you talked to and then follow it up in an email or letter.

I used PayPal on my payment and they were very good.

They followed up with an email to me too.
