Angies List review in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Charged for NO service

I decided to join because I needed work done quickly and didn't want to hire someone blindly. I "joined", but could not access any information, the site kept telling me I needed to "join", when I tried to re-join, I was told I already had an account. Minutes into the "membership", I contacted them saying I can no longer be bothered with the BS... I was told that "no charges" were incurred... This was 4/18/14. Since then, I've received garbage snail mail from "Angie's List"... When I checked my bank account, I'd been charged on 4/21/14 a FULL 3 DAYS AFTER I was assured I'd been charged nothing... Absolute BS company - STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angies List review in Toledo, Ohio: Life threatening experience

I got the name of a contractor from Angies-he sent a felon to our home and destroyed ourkitchen. I called Angies list with police documentation that the repairman sent had an extensive criminal record, and was actually on "work release" from jail. I asked them to remove the contractor from their list-they refused. I believe what Angies list does is just advertise for whomever pays them, and they are not a reputable business. To add insult to injury, they also automatically renew your membership -which I was unaware of . Consequently I paid for an additional year of a service that I did not use or like,

I have no sympathy for anyone who thought joining and believing anything from Angie's List was actually a good idea. A fool and his money...

Angies List review: Angie's List Grants Awards to Unlicensed Contractors

I hired a contractor from Angie's List because he advertised himself as licensed and insured. After he breached his contract with me and I looked him up, he was unlicensed. I filed a complaint with Angie's List and they said he had two weeks to reply. Two weeks later he replied with nonsense but no proof of license. But since he had replied, my complaint went into a "stalemate" status. Then they said he had another two weeks to provide proof of licensing. After those two weeks went by, they said they are giving him another two months because he is now in the process of becoming compliant .. whatever that means. He is still unlicensed... AND when I did a search for the keyword under which I had found him, he still pops up high. The only thing preventing other members from being victimized like I was is my F review. Nothing else. Angie's List has not removed him and has not asked him to change the description of his business which begins: " Licensed Home Improvement contractor..." The company was not licensed in 2013 and yet they received an award.... Angie's List is a joke...

Want to know why Angie's List won't remove him? Because that unlicensed contractor is paying Angie's List to advertise with them.

That is why he still shows high on the search results.

Of course they won't side with the consumers anymore because a whopping 73% of Angie's List revenue yearly comes from the BUSINESS OWNERS, legitimate or not. Google review sites before you sign up for them!!!

Angies List review in Norristown, Pennsylvania: Angie's list is all about themselves and making money.

I signed up with Angie's list over 3 months ago after getting a call from their marketing team. They said if I paid them $120 a month 10,000 people would see my companies name. I said great sign me up. Well after 3 months I have not gotten any calls through Angie's list, no new customers. But I get calls from Angie's list Marketing team every week wanting me to sign up for all these other ads. They even want me to release all my customers info to them so they can get reviews from them, but all their concerned with is landing more Angie's list members. What a scam. Paying thousands of dollars for a referral. Its alot cheaper and more guaranteed to just buy your customers gift cards for their word of mouth. So I canceled my Angie's list ad. I paid a total of $700 in 3 months for absolutely nothing. Should've just went to the casino. Screw Angie's list, and all the businesses that are doing the same thing. Legal fraud, selling hard working contractors a pipe dream.

Angies List review in Phoenix, Arizona: Angie's List Charged Me Renewal Fee without my consent

I bought one year membership. After one year lapsed, I was charged $35 renewal fee without my consent. I called Angie's list immediately, after waiting for a long time, I was told I signed something when I signed up and they only refund 25% of $35. I can't remember anything I signed includes automatic renewal. I have never had any service that charged my fee without my consent and will not refund my fee. Angie's List rates everyone else, who rates Anglie's List? Aglie's List is powerful and its ad is everywhere. They can bully the small users. What can you do?

They did the same to me. Report them to Better Business Bureau. Maybe they hid renewal clause in small print, but this is unacceptable.

Angies List review in Omaha, Nebraska: Worthless if you live in the country

Update by user May 28, 2014

Pissedconsumer's form listed me as Omaha, Nebraska. That is where I am at the moment but I shop/work in Lincoln

Original review posted by user May 28, 2014

I live in the country about 30 miles from the city where work and shop. There are three small towns close by, all with a population between 200 and 600 and not many businesses. Angies list insists on not allowing me to search in the city where I do all of my business. They seem to think I want to search right around my home. Which would work well if I wanted to hire deer, coyotes, rabbits, fox or maybe corn. I found this out when I tried to search from my son-in-law's business which is based in Lincoln. I could not find it at all when searching on Angies list (I was logged on) I then tried it via Googled at Angies list, it found it "LINCOLN TREE SERVICE INC - Angie's List". So I tried expanding the search from within Angies list, changing the parameters of the search etc and still it would not display. When clicking on the link in Google to my son-in-law's business I couldn't see the reviews etc because it said I wasn't logged in. When I logged in I couldn't get to the page.... I give up.

Technician Review

We found a company on Angie's list to do a repair on a high end refrigerator. The technician they sent had no idea what he was doing but tried a fix anyway and caused more damage. We had to find another company to come in and the technician readily made the diagnosis and repaired the first problem and the botched damage by the recommended company by Angie's list. We will never use Angie's list again.
