I didn't get any notifications and a year later, I get a notice from paypal that they have deducted $38 from my account. I tried to cancel, but was told I couldn't because it renewed today.

That's BS that they didn't send any notification that it was going to cancel.

I haven't used this service in over 6 months and they can even check there records to use it.

The one time I did, it was through someone who was offering a "Angies List Discount"...to which he came out and told me since I was getting a discount, I had to pay cash. For a $3K job....no thanks!

Angies List in Portland, Oregon - Difficulties with Angie's List Subscription Kills Its Value

I did not get value from Angie's List (AL). I seldom used it, and when I did once, a service provider did not give me the promised discount. I paid much more for it due to automatically recurring payments from my credit card. Cancelling was purposefully difficult. There was no button for it beside the FAQ link saying it was a type of contact. When I tried to write a cancellation message, I was automatically put through to a live chat saleswoman online who tried to keep me on. After twice requesting a cancellation of my subscription, I had to threaten to complain before she "allowed" me to stop being charged. I do not know whether AL unfairly profits from its recommendations as some believe. Assuming it's legitimate, I suggest staying on only when you need it and be prepared for a hassle when you cancel. Is the company a scam? Maybe not. But they sure weren't the value they hype themselves as.

Joined last night to find a dentist, only to find that after signing up for Angie's list, I still had to pay an additiional fee, just to find any medical information. That's why we joined in the first place.

Is there a fee for everything else, after one joins? That is when I stop. It doesn't take long to figure out that it is just a money grabbing scheme.

I signed up for a year, but will call tomorrow to cancel through my credit card company. Even if the charge is irrevocable, I wish to cancel after less tha a day.

This is a good old case of pure Texas Horse____!

We logged into the website to check out Angie's List after we moved into a new city/state. "Angie" sure makes it difficult for you to realize she CHARGES you for this service. Hmmm...that tells me that if she's willing to charge for her service, why not...

Angies List

I went to Angies list to find a carpet dealer to buy and install carpet. They were very nice, however, made a mistake on the day they were supposed to come and I had to change it for another day. They then measured my carpet for a cost. As it turned out they measure very incorrectly by 300 yards. I had a friend measure and then called in another company who measured the same as my friend. It saved me over $500.00 dollars and I learned my lesson. I also had a friend who is a contractor and he pays every month to advertise on Angies list. The only one that is making money is Angie!!!!!

Angies List in Austin, Texas - They charge companies to get to the front.

I thought Angies list was different. That they would not be bribed by companies with large budgets to get in front of customers. It's worse than that because they do charge companies and they charge the homeowners too. They are working both sides of the fence. I have about ten top ratings on Angies List and they should put me in front of customers because I am one of the highest rated. They wont unless I pay. That is disingenuous to say the least. My opinion is it is a scam. I pay yelp but they do not claim companies cannot pay them for more coverage, at least they are upfront.

Hi,I'm an investigative reporter - I am currently writing a piece on Angies-List. On a public forum, I do not want to go into further details, but if you could contact me that would be great.

I would be happy to pass over to you the information I have collected from other people who have been seriously mistreated.

Please email: ken101clarke@gmail.com. All the best

I just looked at angies list and what you say is true. Businesses can't pay to be on the list but they can pay to be the one that is shared as top 4. That violates the premise that the ratings are provided by the customer when they are in fact floated by advertising budget.

So sorry that I was in error that Angie's List cheated me. After continuing on with checking my records, I found out that they never took the $28 to begin with.

That is why I didn't get the $28 credit!

My deepest apologies to Angie's List

Angies List ratings are not calculated correctly

I joined Angies list and cancelled that day...hopefully. They are a ripoff. They rated companies that are known to be horrible companies and gave them an A. Since when does having 4 Bs and 2As average out to an A rating. If you actually look at the ratings most of them are an average of A but there will be 2 A's 3 B's and a D...how does that equal an A rating overall??? This is such a scam. I cancelled...Im just hoping it actually does cancel. Dont waste your time...use free online sites and friends/family for reviews. I get better honest opinions from facebook.
