Angies List in Newark, New Jersey - Angie's list

there is a business on Angie's List that I have a judgement against for fraud. When I contacted them they said I had to join to file a complaint. I complained to them about this and they basically said too bad. My friend who notified me of the information is a member and posted a complaint for me The business is still on the site. Sadly people trust Angie's List but obviously the site is for profit and not for people. Angie's List is a scam. The business is Lleshi Construction and I won a lawsuit for both fraud and return of money for poor construction work on my home.

Angies List in Redmond, Washington - Angie's List violates your privacy and provides useless information

I have subscribed to Angie's List for over a year. In that time, I have not found any good service providers on the list although I have used the list to look for landscape designers, appliance repair people, electricians, handymen and painters. All of the providers I contacted from the list quoted prices that were much higher than service people I got through referrals from neighbors. To add insult to injury, Angie's List will give out your name and contact information to any service provider who requests it, particualry those for whom you write a negative report. When I questioned Angie's List about that policy, they said that both sides of the story were more important than my privacy. The net effect of this policy is to undermine any credibility the recommendations on the list might have as people are dissuaded from writing negative reviews for fear of retaliation and/or harrassment from the businesses reviewed. Bottom Line: Angie's List is a tool of business, designed to make money off of people's lack of information about quality service providers. They throw their members under the bus.

Why I cant search services beyond my primary zipcode? I thought part of my membership when I signed up, which was a selling point, was that I will be able to use angie's services for all my properties that I've own. Else it would be no point for me to sign up...

Angie's list is a scam, pure and simple. All you are doing is paying good money to read what a bunch of dopes living in your area think about various services.

Purely subjective opinions and mostly worthless. Like reading the review on Amazon.com where you have a bunch of people who say business A is wonderful while others say it is terrible.

All you can do is talk to friends and neighbours. Why would you pay money for something like this???

My wife and I were just harassed at our home by a contractor I never even hired thanks to Angies List. I had lodged a complaint on Angies as the contractor strung us along and blew us off to make bigger money. Our job was urgent at the time. The contractor comes to our...

I have had a similar experience. I was fortunate to be able to take a harassing phone call by a contractor and he have his name on the recording after I had informed him I was recording the call.

People using angies list paying high prices with remodeling/contractors

I own a contracting /remodeling business and I am not on Angies list. Time after time I meet a customer that has told me what their price quotes were from contractors they found on Angies List. HIGH! I don't have low prices as I have one of the largest remodeling showrooms in wisconsin and we are licensed in all trades from plumbing to contracting. We have fair legimate pricing that customers look for as well as an impeccable reputation with BBB, Before you rely on some list where consumers have to pay, just to be part of it, find a local contractor/remodeler and check them out with BBB. They'll give you info for FREE! Good luck.

Energydust, Watch the 20/20 report on the BBB, they're ripping off everyone too. Pay to play, the executives there make hundreds of thousands of dollars charging for A rating, don't pay and get an F. The world is full of crooks talk to people who have used a contractor, word of mouth is the only way!

The free estimate was outrageous - and the estimator kept rejecting what I wanted and put in his ideas which were fast to do, ugly to see. He felt my resisting so he never returned.

"I am on Angie's list" has no value.

Get a recommendation from Home Depot, Ace, anywhere else. Don't trust advertisements - ever.

Angies just renewed my consumer membership automatically for $69. That seemed high so I went to their web site and found a page of subscription prices. For my area a 1 year bundled subscription was supposed to cost $29. I called and was told that renewals are often...

Angies List in Boulder, Colorado - Angie's List Billing Practices

Angie's list did two things. First, they added two services, classic car and health, to my account even thought I didn't ask for them. Second, they raised my price from $7.50/mth in September 2011 to $8.76/mth in October 2011 to $10.94/mth in November 2011. That's almost 46% in two months, with ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING OR EMAIL ANNOUNCEMENT. When I called and asked if the price had been raised or if this was a mistake, she told me that "yes, your charge is fluctuating". I said, flat out, answer yes or no...did the the price get raised. She said no. I asked why were the charges higher, and she said "i'm not going to be bullied into giving you the answer you want". At that point I asked for a supervisor. Supervisor was better. She said yes, they raised the price, but she would credit my card for the difference and keep it at $7.50. I asked her about the two services I didn't order, and the explanation was that when I signed up they were included, but they are now "unbundled" and now charged extra. I asked her to cancel those, and the price further reduced to less than $6. Again, none of this was communicated in the emails I get daily from Angie's List. Very consumer-unfriendly billing practices, almost verging on the deceptive. Ironic to say the least.

Angies List in Livingston, New Jersey - Doctors

I found nothing helpful on Angie's list. There was no information on any Doctor that I looked for in the Austin area so i thought I would look in the SanAntonio area only to find out I had to pay another fee to list another City. I reallly thought that was a bunch of *** - what a way for Angie to make a lot of money!!! I cancelled my subscription as soon as I could - one day after I signed up. Wish i could stop my credit card payment. I would have liked to look in other surrounding areas but not if I have to pay for each little city in the Texas Hill Country

Angies List in Baltimore, Maryland - Angie’s List is not an unbiased consumer advocate

In my opinion, Angie's List is a scam that only wants A-rated reviews on their website. As a subscriber, in only two instances did I give an F-rating to a company regarding their services. In both instances, the input was included on Angie's List website, but for some unknown reason, my negative feedback were later removed from the site. One contractor contacted me ten months (!) after my initial input to Angie's List and specifically mentioned they had seen my negative comment on the site. I decided to update my initial feedback only to discover on both occasions that my input was missing. What I also discovered for this company I rated was that previous ratings of Bs and Cs were now replaced with all A-ratings. Don't waste your money subscribing as Angie's List is certainly not an unbiased consumer advocate.

I am a Master Plumber with 38 years in the trade. I was contacted many times by AL to advertise on there site.

After reviewing the matter I decided against it. There are to many red flags. The input from members are not scrutinized enough and there is to much room for abuse. To me it looked like a giant pity party.

A complaint at the BBB I consider much more legitimate. A person who complains there has to submit it in writing along with their name and address and supporting documents. The contractor has a right and opportunity to respond. All of that information is there for anyone who wants to see.

Sort of the American way in that we all have a right to confront our accusers. If you want to have success with a contractor first listen to what your gut tells you. Then ask many people you know and trust for recommendations. Do read any information at the BBB and state licensing boards and AG office ( but if you feel need to do this or look on a web site then you should probably look for someone else).

On your first meeting was the contractor on time? Did he call you to let you that he was on his way? If he didn’t do not hire him. Trust me on this.

Ask them right to there face if they have ever failed to complete a contract or had any major complaints and watch their reaction. The best one though is to look in their truck when they come to your house and look at how they are dressed.

If they and there truck is a mess then the work they do for you and the respect that they show for you and your home will probably be the same. I have ZERO complaints against my company.

I agree, you need to treat Angie's List like any other review website. They do not compile ratings properly. For example, if I'm looking for strictly a plumber but the business does not only plumbing but general contracting, roofing, gravel laying and more, all those ratings get lumped into the plumber review rating. So, the plumbing portion of a business may be an F but the rest may be better. Therefore, you can't really tell how well the plumber has been rated.

In addition, we happened to have used a business on Angie's List. They're painters and were referred by a friend. I cannot rate them an F on Angie's list because I'm afraid of retaliation by the company since they're known in our circles. I've reamed them on other sites, however.

We're not renewing with AL. We do much better with recommendations from friends. We've used AL with very bad results. They're just not worth it - good concept but very poor execution.

Angie's list is just another scam for a business to make money. They trick you into signing up with them and then after the fact they tell you that you only just signed up for a certain geographic area that they assign you based on where they think you shop or require services, on top of that they tell you after the fact that if you want to write or see a review of another business that you have to pay them again for that area ? Are they insane !

I was advertising on Angies list. I believe it to be a total scam.

They say contractors cannot pay to be on Angies listy then they shake us down for ads.

As a contractor I can only say stay s=away the customers want the work done for nothing. I work to make a living not to make Angie fat.
