Angies List - Angie's list is a scam
Angies List - Angie's list is a scam
There should be a class action lawsuit started against Angie's List. 1) The site incorrectly charged me when i signed up. The sign up walks you through one price, then after you submit everything it charges a higher price. 2) You will get spammed constantly by...

Angies List in New Orleans, Louisiana - Angie's List--unethical ripoff

I wanted handymen ratings. The only way to find out if Angie's list was useful was to subscribe for a month. The stated 1 month subscription fee was $3.50 but I found I was charged $6.50. I found that the number of ratings present made its usefulness somewhat marginal. Depending on your needs, it may be useful in some areas and less so in others. Although I thought $3.50 was a bit to find this out, I was willing to do this. After finding out it wasn't useful to me I didn't access again. Then, I found, in addition to the $6.50 charge, they had been charging my Paypal account $3.50 for several months for a "resubscription" I neither authorized nor was aware of. No doubt they had "fine print" somewhere, where you "agreed" to this practice, but if so it certainly wasn't conspicuous. BEWARE! This is a sleazy operation without ethics! Any organization that operates by principles like this is probably not one you want to be associated with!

BBB IS in it for the money! BBB is a for profit franchise in the different areas that it operates. It charges the contractors to advertise.

So Angie's List folks "tweak" reviews? I've been reading reviews of AL to decide if I think it's worth it (looking for contractor, so the cost is relatively small if truly useful) - and that one statement got my attention more than any other.

If AL "tweaks" user reviews, that is misleading to paying consumers of the website, and I would surmise that an attorney would say it's fraudulent.

Followup. Aside from the ethics of Angie's List--may vary by region--the number of reviewed merchants and, especially, the reliability of the reviews ("tweaked" by Angie's List?) are open to question.

I ended up with completely satisfactory results by going instead to BBB listings. BBB is not in it for the money!

This way, I felt confident in my choice and got good results. I found that NONE of the Angie's List handymen were listed BBB members!

Angies List got-ya

Went to website and was directed to register, providing your name and email. Once I did this it was revealed that I had to purchase a subscription. I don't really need their service enough to open my wallet, so I declined and now get their spam. I have no problem with a service provider charging for their information, but I feel that this just being underhanded on their part. I just went to the site to "unsubscribe" to emails. I wonder if that really will. I think they should be upfront about paying for membership before requiring you to register before getting any of your profile information.

Angie's list is a total scam!!! I went there to check it out to list our business and thought I was signing us up. What was really happening is that each CONSUMER must pay like $34/year to have access to any reviews! How outrageous! I was able to find out how to...

Angies List in Hampton, Virginia - Angie's List more than disappointing

I joined, then tried to access info in two cities; the website kept defaulting to an incorrect page. I called the 1-888 number to no avail - no one answered. I spoke today with a rude and condescending rep; 'I know that we always answer the phone and have lots of receptionists so you must have been dialing a wrong numberbut that's OK, I'll help you anyway'. You're kidding me, right??? That did it, I am done. I requested cancellation of my services and then had to jump through hoops to do that - 'I'm sorry, but I can't cancel you without knowing what's wrong.' "I don't want to use you, you are not providing what I need, cancel me now!' It took forever for them to finally cancel me.

I joined Angies List and then charged 50 dollars on my credit card for what I thought was a deposit toward a plumber. It wasn't.

The $50 went toward a future use of the plumber, something that may not happen for 20 years at the rate I need plumbing services. The plumber arrived, charged $100 dollars and the toilet is still clogged and won't work.

Neither Angies not the plumber will reply after repeated tries. Angie's *** is a complete scam

Angies List in Los Angeles, California - Unlicensed contractors

Subscribed to Angies list to find that many of the highest rated contractors where not even licensed. These people are being bragged about and are operating illegally. I called Angies list and told them I wanted to cancel my subscription because of this and they said it was not there job to require Lic.#s in the reviews. Then had trouble getting them to cancel and refund for the renewal. I said they could at least recommend to people to check contractors lic.#s with the contractors lic. board and they again told me they are not required to do that.

I wish I had read this first. I ordered some concrete steps from a company in Lakeland Florida called Flrida Precast Concrete.

I have a $200 deposit to the owner, Irv Manroel. That was my mistake, he never delivered the steps and refused to give my money back. This company was listed with Angies List. I reported Florida Precast Concrete to the Better Business Bureau.

The company refused to respond to the either. Learned a hard lesson.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. In fact, Angie's List does routinely audit licensing information and we take unlicensed contractors very seriously.

We've published several articles in The Angie's List Magazine encouraging our members to always verify license and insurance before they hire.

I'll be sure to pass along your feedback to prevent this from happening again. If you'd like to email me the name of the company, please do so at casandram (at) angieslist (dot) com.

The big deal works like this: you get an email from Angie's List with a discounted service (tree trimming, carpet cleaning, .etc). If you like the offer, you sign up for the coupon and the price (discounted) is paid for with your credit card (on file as you have to...

From the business side - The Big Deal

For ex the regular price is $100.00, Angie's want you to offer it at a discount say $80. The owner gets 40% of the $80.

Angie's list keeps 60%

A job that would be $100.00 we are now only making $48.00

As a small business it is not cost effective to do these big deals.

We don't try to sell you more stuff when we get there. If it's too good to be true......

Angies List in Williamsburg, Virginia - Keeps charging even after cancellation

Angie's List will keep charging you even after you cancel your subscription or "discounted trial". My advise is to pay by paypal so that you can contact them when angie charges you again and again after cancellation. The nominal fee that you will repeatedly refute, at first, won't seem worth the time but will quickly accrue. Angie's banks on their customers being either busy or lazy. Caveat emptor! I believe that this accurately describes my experience with angie's; I'm adding these thirty characters to meet this website's minimum character requirement. Sometimes a short and to-the-point review is better received...and read.

WOW....I WAS SCAMMED BY ANGIES LIST!! They made the initial search look like they had data on the company I was researching so I paid the fee to get the information.

Once I paid there was no additional into on the company! WHen I tried to cancell the acct via their online form I was redirected to a chat que. I wanted nearly a full hour and got to next in que where I wanted another 30 min for no response.

I THINK THEY HAVE INTENTIONALLY BECOME THE SCAMMERS NOT THE CONSUMER ADVOCATES. PASS THE WORD THIS IS A SCAM.

I joined Angie's List in April of 2007 at a yearly rate of 47.00 and understood that this was an introductory rate. In April of 2008 I was billed at renewal for $59.00 which I had originally agreed to when I joined. In April of 2009 I again was charged $59.00 as I did...

I too was scmmed by Angies List - I had a trial for $15. and decided I no longer wanted the service.

Due to a lost card I got a new one issued with a new number which I did not give to Angies list, the sent renewal notices which I ignored. Subsequently they "hacked" my new account. I reported it to my bank and they told me to contact the company which I did. It took a long time to get the charge reversed, with out appology or explaination, after threatening to take legal action.

I'm sorry now that I did not persue that course. Watch your statement folks - their seems to be larceny in Angies plans, as noted above also.
