Angies List in Hampton, Virginia - Angie's List more than disappointing

I joined, then tried to access info in two cities; the website kept defaulting to an incorrect page. I called the 1-888 number to no avail - no one answered. I spoke today with a rude and condescending rep; 'I know that we always answer the phone and have lots of receptionists so you must have been dialing a wrong numberbut that's OK, I'll help you anyway'. You're kidding me, right??? That did it, I am done. I requested cancellation of my services and then had to jump through hoops to do that - 'I'm sorry, but I can't cancel you without knowing what's wrong.' "I don't want to use you, you are not providing what I need, cancel me now!' It took forever for them to finally cancel me.

I joined Angies List and then charged 50 dollars on my credit card for what I thought was a deposit toward a plumber. It wasn't.

The $50 went toward a future use of the plumber, something that may not happen for 20 years at the rate I need plumbing services. The plumber arrived, charged $100 dollars and the toilet is still clogged and won't work.

Neither Angies not the plumber will reply after repeated tries. Angie's *** is a complete scam

Angies List in Los Angeles, California - Unlicensed contractors

Subscribed to Angies list to find that many of the highest rated contractors where not even licensed. These people are being bragged about and are operating illegally. I called Angies list and told them I wanted to cancel my subscription because of this and they said it was not there job to require Lic.#s in the reviews. Then had trouble getting them to cancel and refund for the renewal. I said they could at least recommend to people to check contractors lic.#s with the contractors lic. board and they again told me they are not required to do that.

I wish I had read this first. I ordered some concrete steps from a company in Lakeland Florida called Flrida Precast Concrete.

I have a $200 deposit to the owner, Irv Manroel. That was my mistake, he never delivered the steps and refused to give my money back. This company was listed with Angies List. I reported Florida Precast Concrete to the Better Business Bureau.

The company refused to respond to the either. Learned a hard lesson.

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. In fact, Angie's List does routinely audit licensing information and we take unlicensed contractors very seriously.

We've published several articles in The Angie's List Magazine encouraging our members to always verify license and insurance before they hire.

I'll be sure to pass along your feedback to prevent this from happening again. If you'd like to email me the name of the company, please do so at casandram (at) angieslist (dot) com.

The big deal works like this: you get an email from Angie's List with a discounted service (tree trimming, carpet cleaning, .etc). If you like the offer, you sign up for the coupon and the price (discounted) is paid for with your credit card (on file as you have to...

From the business side - The Big Deal

For ex the regular price is $100.00, Angie's want you to offer it at a discount say $80. The owner gets 40% of the $80.

Angie's list keeps 60%

A job that would be $100.00 we are now only making $48.00

As a small business it is not cost effective to do these big deals.

We don't try to sell you more stuff when we get there. If it's too good to be true......

Angies List in Williamsburg, Virginia - Keeps charging even after cancellation

Angie's List will keep charging you even after you cancel your subscription or "discounted trial". My advise is to pay by paypal so that you can contact them when angie charges you again and again after cancellation. The nominal fee that you will repeatedly refute, at first, won't seem worth the time but will quickly accrue. Angie's banks on their customers being either busy or lazy. Caveat emptor! I believe that this accurately describes my experience with angie's; I'm adding these thirty characters to meet this website's minimum character requirement. Sometimes a short and to-the-point review is better received...and read.

WOW....I WAS SCAMMED BY ANGIES LIST!! They made the initial search look like they had data on the company I was researching so I paid the fee to get the information.

Once I paid there was no additional into on the company! WHen I tried to cancell the acct via their online form I was redirected to a chat que. I wanted nearly a full hour and got to next in que where I wanted another 30 min for no response.

I THINK THEY HAVE INTENTIONALLY BECOME THE SCAMMERS NOT THE CONSUMER ADVOCATES. PASS THE WORD THIS IS A SCAM.

I joined Angie's List in April of 2007 at a yearly rate of 47.00 and understood that this was an introductory rate. In April of 2008 I was billed at renewal for $59.00 which I had originally agreed to when I joined. In April of 2009 I again was charged $59.00 as I did...

I too was scmmed by Angies List - I had a trial for $15. and decided I no longer wanted the service.

Due to a lost card I got a new one issued with a new number which I did not give to Angies list, the sent renewal notices which I ignored. Subsequently they "hacked" my new account. I reported it to my bank and they told me to contact the company which I did. It took a long time to get the charge reversed, with out appology or explaination, after threatening to take legal action.

I'm sorry now that I did not persue that course. Watch your statement folks - their seems to be larceny in Angies plans, as noted above also.

Angie's List allows consumers to shed light on bad business practices. Unfortunately, they should be added to the negative experience list. Up until today, I was a subscriber to Angie's List since 2008 for two cities. Today I was surprised to receive a...

I think its infuriating that they make it so difficult to kill your "membership." Believe me, they want people to get charges unexpectedly bc many people do not check their CC statements. This is deliberate deception.

Thank you for warning people through this post!!

COMPLETELY disagree that Angie's List is a good thing. I work for a company that does home remodeling. A third party tried to hire my employer to do work on a house that they don't own. When my employer stated that for the company to do the work they would have to have...

I have an x-employee that happened to be a member of Angies. He wrote a fake review about my company, pretending to be a customer, gave me an F rating.

I contact Angie's, tell them the situation, they want proof, so I send application, time sheets and W-2 form. They write back and say that a hand written application is not enough? Well, how else does a person fill out an application. They they want pay stubs.

Well, I don't use the pay stub system, I'm a small company. The x-employee contacts me, laughs, and says, I was contacted by Angie's to ask if I had worked for you, I simply told them no...I asked angie's since I had sent all this proof, and the burden is on me, what has he sent to prove he had an awful experience w/our company. They claim the burden of proof is on the contractor? OK...so I remain w/an F rating...1 person makes a false claim, been in business 25 years, and I have an F.

Bunch of scammers this company is.

They never checked if his review was legitamite.
