Angies List review in Livonia, Michigan: Angie's commercial

It seems to me that just a few short years ago Angie's commercial was much different. She seemed to end each one with "no company can pay to be on Angie's list" Yet it seems that that is all they are about now, advertising. I think "truth in advertising" should pertain to everyone, especially those the profess honesty, but clearly are not. How can anyone believe in a company that says they are the stop gap between contractors and consumers when they are just as deceptive as the bad contractors they represent. Do we know if this Angie is even the real owner or just a paid actor like Flo on the progressive commercial?

As an honest business (no longer in operation), I saw over the years, that to the contractor, they were quite aggressive as opposed to their beginnings, trying to solicit advertising money in various forms (skirting the rules), and basically negating their entire purpose with all the new strategy. I refused to continue using AL, even though the lack of recent good reports made us look bad.

When clients asked if we'd like an AL review from them, we politely said "no that's ok...a letter of recommendation perhaps.." and continued by referrals to gain new clients.

There's much more... but I should write my own complaint!

Angies List review in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan: Don't waste your money on AngiesList

Difficult to search for providers Website not user friendly. Minimal providers listed. There are none listed in my area. I live in the metro Detroit area. You'd think there would be plenty. Tried finding house cleaners and payroll companies in my area. There are none listed. Most were at least 20 miles away if not farther. Website searching does not work well. The website tries to guess what you are looking for but lists irrelevant companies. Don't waste your money on a subscription. You will not find anything. I suppose they just want people to write reviews and not be able to search for providers.

I hired 3 contractors recommended by Angie's list.

All 3 were terrible!

The worst part though was when my 1 year subscription was automatically renewed. Don't subscribe to this waste of money. Angie's List is no better than the yellow pages.

Angies List review in Detroit, Michigan: Angie list dont waste your time

Angies list is a joke don't waste your time on this service. contractors are held up for huge sums of money to advertise on this so called free referral site. Angie no longer owns this site it is owned by private company that holds it contractors hostage. Angie list encourages it members to give company reviews the members have no respect for contractors time and money it takes to meet with *** homeowners for *** ***. When you *** homeowners don't get what you want you post a bad review. And we have no recourse because you are *** It cost time and money to waste our time. Then you have seedy contractors that buy reviews from home owners.Great way to do business Angie.

Complete waste of time. Two out of three contractors contacted for a residential project never responded.

The one that did was a no-call, no show for the first visit.

Totally lame. Will never use this service again.

Not only are there a limited amount of reviews ....even in the Dallas area.....but when you cancel your subscription they don't do it. Money was debited from my account nearly a month after I canceled my subscription.

The reason I canceled in the first place was becasue I was able to get better and more references just by asking around than I was able to get from Angie.

Then my account was still charged after I cancelled. Not good business!!!!!!

Angies List review in Traverse City, Michigan: Angie list is worthless

You have NOTHING on the companies I am looking to hire. One has been in business 25 years, the other is well known to menards and lowes, but you have NOTHING. Angie's list is like throwing your money out the window. Do Not Use! Any why to I have to input 100 words. You protect Angies list from compliants. My goal is to spread the word the old fashion way, word of mouth. This is a worthless. Do not buy or use Angie list. It's a major rip off. A waste of money and time. Do not use, do not buy, do not waste your time.

This is what is wrong with Angie's List. My company is on Angie's List with some nice reviews, but, we get a lot of calls from people who do not even know what we specialize in.

On the Angie's List site, there is no where for the company to display the product they are offering and provide pictures of it etc.

In short, we get calls for people who are looking for other products in which we have to refer them to someone else. This costs us time, gas and money.

I own a business which is listed on Angies List. If you get a certain number of positive reviews you can run specials on Angies List. I reached out to all of my customers, my Twitter account, my linked in and my Facebook page. No one was a current customer of Angies...

I was looking for a service provider and found one that had at least four times the number of good reviews than the next listed one. When I contacted them and did some research I found why. Here's just a couple of things I found:

1. They have no license. It's apparently not required for their type of business. Fine, but when I looked at his site it says its because Orange County, CA charges $500 for one. If it was my business and I was supposedly doing so great, I would get the license in a heartbeat to reassure customers. And I sure wouldn't put that on my site!

2. He has a coupon for 10% off. Well, come to find out, you get your 10% back AFTER writing a review. Who would write a negative review? Although you would think even if it was a neg review he'd be obligated to return the 10% to the customer. Who knows? Needless to say I didn't use the company

I called Angie's and told them of my concerns. This is when I still thought Angie's list was on the legit. Of course they did nothing about this guy's dubious business practices; they said they'd "look into it." Yeah, right. He probably can't get the license because he pays Angie's so much! The 10% refund is nothing but plain ole bribery! :(

This is when I started to have misgivings and dug a bit deeper. Now the fun thing will be trying to cancel my membership. I've read that's it's about as hard as winning the lottery!

Angies list is a scam

Angies list works out these deals of the day with companies. I paid $119 for this deal only to get a run around from the contractor and a waste of six weeks. When I placed a negative review, angies list refused to post the F rating. I can see from other sites that there are new people from angies list getting stuck by this same contractor. Angies list is still offering a "deal" with this contractor despite the F ratings and reviews. Angies list was created to provide honest reviews but can't when they go into business with vendors and contractors. I would not recommend angies list because they are not impartial.

I agree I signed up and paid, I thought it would give me details of good businesses. The info was terrible, I got better results from google.

The one business I found actually close 3 months prior, so far it’s been a waste of money just a scam. I have cancelled my subscription now, and will use only google for reviews.
