ANGIE LIST EXPIRENCES

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I HAVE USED ANGIE LIST FOR YEARS AND I ONLY USE IT TO GET NAMES OF PEOPLE CLOSE TO OUR LOCATION. I WILL LOOK AT ANY BAD REVIEWS AS THOSE MUST BE VALID IF SOMEONE ACTUALLY TOOK TIME TO POST. HOWEVER THE POSITIVES ARE NOT ALWAYS ACURATE. WE HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH AN ELECTRICIAN AND HE HAD AN A REVIEW.

Automatic renewal to 2021

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
After receiving an Angie's List brochure today, I took a look at my account and found that my renewal date was out to May 2021. When I called customer service they agreed that, even though my account is shown to be an annual renewal, I was renewed to 2021. I found customer service to be lacking in helpfulness. Even though customer service had talked to their supervisors while I was on the phone, there was no supervisor available to me that I could talk to. I have not been able to use Angie's List in my current city as of 2017 because the contractors were all too busy and had plenty of customers without Angie's List. I completed my renovation without a single contractor from Angie's List. I was not notified of automatic renewals and expected my account to be closed since I haven't used them for two years. But instead I found Angie's List has been renewing my account for multiple years. I canceled the service today. I was unable to eliminate the credit card listed with my account so will have to keep monitoring them for any more unanticipated renewals.

Just charged my credit card a $70 renewal on my deceased wife's account to which I have no access. Tried calling them and got automated tree that says I can't talk to them unless I get a Gold membership myself. The Web site help and contact process is absolutely the worst I've ever come across. Web page is so bad that you cannot complete your complaint or read it before you send it. I have now cancelled my own membership by letting the credit card information lapse in spite of this being my go to list for contractors for over 15 years. What a shame that their public web site is such a poor example of their product.

I Don't Trust Angie's Ratings and Neither Should You!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I came to the website to see if other people were aware of Angie's is Mathematically challenged rating scale. I became aware after discovering that a company I hired was active but had many F's for lying about pricing (as they had done to me), the bad companies employee privately admitted that owner always raised the price after work was done, telling the customer that they confused his quote with another business.

I asked Angie's to explain why this unethical business had an A rating. I was told that they had a lot of A's and B's and C's etc. but since they had more A's than F's and D's, that it worked out in grade school that would be a C grade as anyone with experience with division will tell you. I said that depends on how you calculate it based on median, mean or average - the rep was lost and just repeated the spiel.

I tried to explain but just heard the spiel again. I gave up -I passed Calculus and handled a $50 million budget - don't BS me, Angie! *The worst thing is you can't read reviews - only the last 3 posted. You must speak to a representative and ask about the number of D's and F's.

I was told by customer service they can't see the reviews - um, I don't think so...* Likewise, a different company that ripped me off approx.

8 years earlier is on their list with an A rating and I asked and sure enough lots of F's. I rate Angie's an F for lying which based on New Math would be an A on their site...

Fair warning, you will find a renewal charge on your account, even years later. Best to just cancel the credit card. This is the worst rip-off company that I have encountered.

Destroyed my yard, did not clean up after himself and my driveway is all cracked up and is peeling really bad. Will not fix or even return my call. Rude employees that urinate everywhere, Would never hire this st Paul Minnesota company again. This experience has been a true nightmare, price wise and time wise. I got the name from this website also, and i would appreciate if you update this company so others do not get hurt like i did. I would also appreciate if this message went public, i have a right to warn others, others have the right under the 1st amendment to also read this.

Bad handyman

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I needed a back door replaced, some hardiboard replaced, a new flushing mechanism in a toilet and some plaster work on ceiling to repair water damage. He took the toilet mechanism when he left and my toilet still ran.

There is *** in my siding where he obviously missed with his hammer, the siding is uneven, there was plaster all over the floor, and no clean up at all. Angie's list put him in the "penalty box". I cringe every time I hear their ad about their guarantee. They suggested I go to the BBB.

I am left with paying again for work I was supposed to have had. The handyman grumbled about the deal he had with Angie.

You gotta dig deep...

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
They don't assess "work not performed" at the same level as completed work. This basically means that if a contractor jacks you around for weeks, months, whatever, telling you that they are going to do the work, will be there tomorrow, and "no showing" again and again, they don't really get penalized. According to the people in Angie's List offices, it requires 8 "F"s from contractors like the one described above, to equal 1 "A" from work performed. My time is valuable, and thinking that you've found someone to perform the work, taking time away from my schedule to meet them, as well as not looking for anyone else since I thought I had it covered. I wasted almost 4 months with one of their contractors being treated this way. In looking over all of his reviews, he did this periodically with a number of people, but is still given an "A" rating. I think this treatment is every bit as bad as poor service, and should be rated accordingly.

The service is worthless in my community

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Angie's List (AL) does not offer a trial membership or I would have never joined. I was looking for some household help in a community of over 200,000. I joined AL and it lists exactly one (1), that is right, one (1) reviewed maid service. Had AL let me know how many maid service reviews it had in my area, I would have never wasted my money. And, now after reading reviews on this site I have to worry that AL will scam me by auto renewal. It is always a beating dealing with folks that are all about the profit.

Angie's List IS all about the money, not helping as they claim

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
While working for a contractor, I had suspected Angie's List was mostly a bogus deal as their commercials say "you can't buy your way onto Angie's List" but yet they continuously solicited us for advertising. According to them, the reviews were real and they would not recommend a company that had less than a "B" rating. Well I no longer work for the contractor and out of curiosity I joined Angie's List yesterday. Even though this contractor has a 1 star rating on Yelp, many bad Google reviews, bad Merchant Circle reviews and the BBB has currently pulled their listing and "reviewing" it, Angie's List has this business rated as a "B". Even though in the last 18 month this business has had ALL D and F reviews except for ONE. Angie's List just wants the advertisers money. This was made even MORE clear to me today. Yesterday when I signed up for Angie's List the price for my area was $9.99 and they offered a 20% coupon so my price for the year was like $6 and some change. I got a Groupon ad today for Angie's List that claims the regular price is $19.99 and with the "Great Groupon Discount of 55%" you can get it for $9.50. Basically this is abusing the Groupon idea and just another way that Angie's List is scamming for money. I will be cancelling my membership today and will have no part of this company.

Attention Contractors Angies List wants to take away your rights!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Did you know that an Angies list member can file a complaint on Angies List? The member can fill page after page with nonsense, in fact they can take so many pages that no one can see anything else but their compliant. Good Bye to all you excellent ratings. Once the complaint is filed you have specific time period to respond and defend yourself through Angies paper work and their schedule. The pressure is to settle regards of the nonsense. If you do not, regardless of your previous ratings you are removed from the list and but in a “penalty box”. Here where it gets nasty, If you mention that you previous informed the member, that if they did not stop their harassment you would take legal action to force them to stop. To Angie that is a legal threat. You will then get an email from SP Integrity, ( which just happens to be Angies list employees)stating that if you take legal action you will be removed from the list. Angie wants to affect your rights and change common law. Considering that I did mention legal action and did not take kindly to their” Threats” Angie has removed us from the list. For the record, we have an A rating with Angie for twenty years, we have recently won the Super Service Award. Which we do every year. All of that is worth nothing!

Angies List is Pay for Play

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Angie's List is where people who already have trust issues with Contractors go - the problem is the entire game is rigged as usual. We were an AL company and all they want from us is MONEY.

We get calls from people we would never do business with because they are already so freaked out by what might happen or their last experience with a contractor. Most of us (contractors) do honest work for fair prices, not all but the ones who have been in business over 10 years. What the public doesn't understand is what we go through just to be able to provide you the public with service. We are constantly harassed by OSHA, Building Code Enforcement, The EPA, IRS, Workman's Comp, the city, the county, the state, the feds.

We train our people to no only be good builders but they also have to constantly be aware of what they say, how they say it and who is listening - we have to act like investigators during additions and remodeling, Lawyers when we write contracts and still we get treated like thieves when we ask to get paid. If the average person understood how difficult it is to become a contractor, all the red tape we must cut through every time we practice our trade - if they say how we get constantly bombarded by new and ridiculous codes and laws - NO ONE WOULD BECOME A CONTRACTOR BY CHOICE. However, I happen to work for a guy who has a passion for building and is quite good at it. We are people just like you.

Angie's List took 2400.00 from us last year and we got ZERO from it. Now they come back to us and want us to spend 16K this year and they swear it will be different this time. Think about this people - If you add up all of the costs - WC, Insurance, Vehicles, Maintenance, Tools, Continuing Education, Overhead and Consumables - where is there room for a 16K program that nets you nothing? Can't anyone understand why it costs 125.00/hour to have a guy come to your home in a truck?

Does anyone go to the car dealership and expect a free engine diagnosis? Do you get free Doctor visits? We bust our butts to serve our customers - Angie's List complicates the process and gives folks a false sense of security because one need only pay to play... Stop being lazy and do your own homework - call the chamber of commerce - look up public records and see who has had legal action and how it was resolved.

We look at you the same way - we have to because we have been burned by people of limited integrity too.

Meet with us - talk to people - find out who you can trust and then get involved. A much better process than a web service could ever hope to provide.

It's hard to get rid of them.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I subscribed to Angie's List, but found I didn't use it so I decided not to renew my subscription. That sounds like a fairly easy thing to do but, in reality, it is difficult to get rid of them. I am still getting daily emails, although I have "clicked to unsubscribe" over 15 times. They were also calling me every week, so I have now blocked them on my phone. I question their ethics if they can't accept when someone no longer wishes to subscribe to their service. Their business model is close to harassment. I'd never subscribe to them again.

Angie's List is a SCAM

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Angie's List pretends to provide results but then demands MORE money if your search falls into specific categories. This is so *** greedy I don't know where to begin. They are intentionally altering your search in order to demand higher subscription costs. I build this stuff for a living I know what goes on under the hood. It takes MORE effort to do this than it does to provide ALL results. They have to actually spend time and money to provide less service! Angie's List has lost my business forever because I will not be snowed by yet ANOTHER greedy internet company that goes out of its way to limit their results just so they can price gouge. At lease Google is free and as good at providing reviews if not better. Tell Angie where she can stick your money.
