Poor service and didn't recieve the refund I was promised.

I was looking for a local dry cleaner and did a web search. Angie's list came up in the search and when I checked them out they said they had six reviews four negative and two positive. I of course had to sign up to see the details. After signing up and paying my fee their reviews suddenly change from six to just two and one of those was 1500 miles away from my zip code. I try canceling my membership but the agent I was talking to wouldn't do that even though I repeatedly request it. The best I could get was a promise that the automatic renewal feature would be disabled. However I continued to recieve emails saying that my account would automatically renew. I contacted them a second time and after a long argument finally got them to cancel my membership and refund my payment no mention of the 110% refund and in fact I still haven't seen the refund of my original fee. I feel that this site is nothing but a scam I was cheated and I have no confidence that they really canceled my membership I expect to have further difficulties with them their services and promises are worthless.

Never Anything Useful

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have tried Angie's list twice. I subscribed once to find a plumber and 1 review each for 50 plumbers wasn't helpful. A year later I try again when I moved and needed help finding a doctor. It's an extra charge for the Medical List and it's really inadequate. Hardly any doctors are rated and they are 50 miles away. The first time I signed up, they wouldn't refund my fee. The second time, they did but I had only been signed up for 20 minutes when I canceled. Angie's list seems to be worthless. The services listed are not adequately reviewed, if they are reviewed at all. More detail is needed such as what the services charged the consumer writing a review.

Tried to cancel; got to "chat"

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
After never finding a suitable service lead from Angie's List, I went to the site to cancel. I was automatically redirected to "chat". There's no opt out. You're stuck in chat ***. After reiterating I wanted to cancel because I had more success with Groupon/Yelp/Amazon than I ever experienced with Angie's List, chat responded with "what can we do to improve our service to you". Rewrote what I had initially said, and received back "how about if we charge you 25% less?". I wrote back to the effect, "so you want me to pay 25% less for a service I don't use? Seriously?" Unbelievable. I told the rep to look for my review of Angie's List on social media.

Angie's List Refused to Post my review, but buried it

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I made a long, bad review for the local Discount Tire in Albuquerque, NM and after a few weeks, I searched Angie's List to locate my review. I was not able to find it so I called Angie's List and they told me that because my review was an F rating, they buried the review on a webpage that no consumer would look under. Technically they did post my review, but the average consumer would never think to jump through several technical hoops on their webpage in a specific order to locate my bad review. I asked them to close my account and the Angie's List rep hung up on me.

Do Not Advertise Your Company With Them

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Spending $400.00 per month on Angie's List advertising. Angie's List promised leads and jobs...NOT ONE lead or call. Now we pay them $400.00 per month for NOTHING!!! They tell their customers that no contractors pay them, well we did! And still do... $400.00 per month for NOTHING. They assign some teenager to "handle" my account and get me work through some "call center" they brag about. They assign you counties and it is a RIP-OFF. Contractors---do not fall for it. They claim to be the ones keeping contractors honest, well who is keeping Angie's list honest?

Angies List gets 100% of the Big Deal fee you pay.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Working as a contractor and being constantly solicited by Angies (useless) List to participate in the Big Deal I was surprised to learn that we don't get the fee, they do and were suppose to make up for it by all the AL customers..pfftttt...well after sorting through every retar d with a handyman project, every toa d with no money, or the ones getting 19 bids, it doesn't pay to be listed or brag about our good standing with AL. It costs us, so we cut ties. If you consider their List as having any reliability in terms of contractors your just dum b.

Will never use them again - they remove bad reviews - don't trust them.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I wrote a review of a landscaping company that took money for a job they did not complete. The review was extensive with pictures etc... The company lied about the work they did, they wouldn't return phone calls or texts and refused to refund my money. I wrote a negative review and was soon contacted by Angie's list staff asking if I wanted them to assist in a resolution. I agreed. They contacted the company who at the very last second agreed to reimburse me 1/2 my money. I agreed because 1/2 is better than nothing. I then get an email from Angie's list that they are now removing my negative review and if I want to give this company either an "A" or "B" rating, I can submit another review. What the heck? This company is terrible! Why in the world would I want to give them a positive review. I would have been happy to update my complaint to include the resolution but, to completely remove the review all together and force me to give a positive review is ridiculous! Can you imagine all the really terrible companies out there who can toss a few dollars to unhappy customers just to get their negative reviews removed? Angie's list is completely unreliable. I will never use them again.

I agree. I had a very negative experience with one of their endorsed & advertised contractors.

They never even printed the complaint or put them in their "Penalty Box." We have cancelled our subscription and will NEVER use Angie's List Again. I tell everyone now to steer clear of anyone on their list!
