Their "Do you need help with buying materials?" is a scam!
- - Help buying materials raised the quote by $139.
- - Contractor bought materials for about $40; I reimbursed; Angies List says I must reimburse.
When I was placing an order, I was provided with a quote: time and price. Then it was a question: "Do you need help with buying materials?".
I said yes and my quote was increased for 1 hour/$139.
When contractor was actually doing the job, he bought the materials himself (BTW, it costed only $40). Then he asked me for reimbursement, he said they didn't pay him for materials, they paid him for the labor only (BTW, 4 times less than my price was). I called the Angies List and they confirmed: yes, I have to reimburse his expenses.
My question was: "Then, what did I pay $139 for?". Their answer: "For our service: you asked for help with buying materials."
So, it's like this: contractor buys the materials, you reimburse his expenses and just for letting Angies List know you did it, you pay them extra $139.
- Sales tactics
- Charging extra for service they did not provide
User's recommendation: Don't check "Do you need help with buying materials?".

Verified ReviewerQuestionable Charging Practices
- - Refund $29 charged without agreement; not used in 10+ years; if not refunded in 14 days, I will pursue legal action and warn others.
BEWARE OF ANGIES LIST! My second attempt to contact them:
Some time ago I contacted you requesting a refund on the $29 I was charged completely without my agreement.
I have not used your service or agreed to payment (or been charged for it) for over 10 years - I only loaded the app onto a new phone!
If this money is not refunded in 14 days, I will use every legal recourse available to me, including leaving warnings of your poor customer service on the Apple App Store,&;;;;;;;; every other consumer site & review forum on the Internet.
I did customer service my entire life. Angies List is a service which depends entirely on consumer trust & goodwill, & what youre doing is is an entirely unacceptable practice. If you ARE better, then DO better, & refund my money, & stop summarily charging people. This is a crisis time, a pandemic, & it may not seem like much to you, but for a senior on a fixed income $29 is a lot of money.
Do the right thing, refund my money, & be more careful & transparent about your charges in the future!
And just as an aside, for all that you charge, your website & app have virtually NOTHING in the way of Help or Customer Contact content: I had to search a 3rd party site to be able to contact you, which is negligent customer service. Just refund my money, please.
- Charged memb fee when not requested
- No customer svc info on app or website
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified ReviewerWe suspect that we have been robbed by one of your members by the name of 'Unique Boat Concepts'.
- - Angie's List listed Rene Humnell as an upholsterer for antique couch; he picked it up ~3 weeks ago with $1,000 down and $800 fabric, and no reply.
To recover my antique sofa, I was looking for an upholsterer 'near me' on the web, and Angie's List came up with the name of a boat repair, upholsterer, etc., and this company was the only name provided. So I reached out to the owner, Rene Humnell (SP).
When he called in response to my inquiry he explained that even though boats were his specialty, he also did furniture. In fact he seemed quite excited about the idea. He enthusiastically offered, even asked if he could, reupholster our antique couch. He picked the couch up approximately three + weeks ago with the promise to have it back this coming weekend.
We had heard nothing from him after he got the couch, (plus over $800 in fabric and a $1,000 down payment.) Not hearing from him, I started out last Tuesday by leaving him a message on the same phone number we conversed with each other on a regular basis while I shopped for the fabric. I didn't get a response so I texted. Still no response. Next day I called, and not hearing back from him, again, I asked my husband to call and leave a message.
That was last night. Still no response. This afternoon I left another voice mail. Still no response.
This evening my husband left another message. No response as of this time, 9:55 p.m. The website doesn't give any information about the company, address, phone number, not the name of the owner. I can't believe I didn't do more due diligence, but now here we are, out money, no couch.
Can you please help us track him down? I trust you have more information that will hopefully help us find him. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

- Possible scam causing loss of property and money
Preferred solution: To recover our antique couch, the $1,000 deposit, the fabric and the $842.05 spent for the fabric.
User's recommendation: I don't even know if he's still active on the web. But if he is, and you are considering him, get much more information than I did!

Verified ReviewerPlumbing & water heater
- - I do not recommend A Plus Plumbing.
- - They installed a tankless water heater on Dec 3, 2020, and two months later I have no hot water.
- - No reply from Josh.
I do not recommend A Plus Plumbing
I hired A-plus out of Fuquay Varina, nc which I found out on Angies List. I was impressed with this company and ability to do it all.
A Plus plumbing installed the tankless water heater on December 3rd 2020, today is February 8,2021.
2 months later I still have no hot water. Josh Coleson a has quit answering my calls and Texts.
- Prompt quality service

Sells your personal information
- - Tried Angi for Houston pool service.
- - Got 2 pool companies with few reviews.
- - Data was sold, causing calls.
Decided to try Angi to find pool service repair. After filling out Angi form with name, # and email, i received two local pool companiesN with less than 15 reviews on each of them.
Seriously!!!! I'm in Houston, Texas!! Every other home has a pool in this town. You sent me 2.
WOW!.
Also, YOU (Angi) SOLD MY NAME, ADDRESS &;;;;;;;;; PHONE # to any *** who pays YOU for it.
The calls and emails started immediately for every type of home service you could imagine and none of them were in the swimming pool biz!. I WILL NEVER TRY OR USE YOU AGAIN!
*** ANGI....and the horse you ride!
Spam phone calls from Angies list/home advisor
- - Used Angies List for snow removal; shared email/phone and opted out.
- - Two listed contractors had no reviews; four nearby had reviews.
I went online to Angies List to find a snow removal company. Like a fool, I filled out a form that contained my email and phone number.
I also checked the box that indicating I only wanted to receive a list of recommended companies and I did NOT want to book through Angies List.
The list of approved snow removal contractors I received consisted of 2 companies. Neither one had a single review to read.
I then went to google and found 4 snow removal companies near me, each with multiple reviews.
Within 5 minutes of giving my email and phone number on the Angies List form, I received a phone call from a VERY pushy Home Advisor salesman who said he was from Angies List/ Home Advisor and he wanted to set up a job for me. I politely explained that I had very clearly checked the box indicating I did NOT want to be contacted by Angies List and to please remove me from any future calls but he hung up on me before I could finish my sentence.
I also immediately received 4 spam messages - 2 from Home Advisor, 1 from Angies List, and one from handy.com
It turns out Angies List is now hooked up with Home Advisor and Handy.com and gives your information to them so they can spam you.
User's recommendation: DO NOT USE angie’s list, home advisor, or handy.com unless you want to receive spam phone calls and emails!
Spam Calls
- - Free listing leads to annoying phone calls.
- - After signing up, they said information was missing.
- - The call demanded payment and insulted me.
Apparently, "free listing" means that you don't have to pay in money but in receiving annoying phone calls. Signed up for the free listing.
Shortly after I received a phone call saying they were missing information. The conversation quickly evolved into essentially "You need to pay us money, if you don't then you don't know what you are doing, you are a horrible person, and your business will fail."
User's recommendation: Avoid if possible

Verified ReviewerRobbed of cash, gold and guns.
- - Blake Dixon is the owner.
- - $25,000 in cash, gold, and 13 guns are missing, drug paraphernalia found around the house, and the work is not finished.
Dixon and Sons Handymans Service is a company I got from Angies List. I cant prove who stole from me but as Blake Dixon is the owner all of my losses were on his watch.
$25,000 in cash, gold and 13 guns missing. The work that did get done had to be redone because it was poorly done.
The work is not finished and I am close to filling bankruptcy. Finding drug paraphernalia in and around the house took me by surprise, but it explained where my money and gold went.
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Do not hire Dixon and Sons Handyman’s
ANGIE LIST EXPIRENCES
- - I use Angie List to get names near my location.
- - Bad reviews are valid if someone posts.
- - We had a bad experience with an electrician who had a review.
I HAVE USED ANGIE LIST FOR YEARS AND I ONLY USE IT TO GET NAMES OF PEOPLE CLOSE TO OUR LOCATION. I WILL LOOK AT ANY BAD REVIEWS AS THOSE MUST BE VALID IF SOMEONE ACTUALLY TOOK TIME TO POST.
HOWEVER THE POSITIVES ARE NOT ALWAYS ACURATE. WE HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH AN ELECTRICIAN AND HE HAD AN A REVIEW.

Verified ReviewerTheft. Poor quality and job not completed
- - I would not hire Dixon and Sons Handymans Services.
- - I was robbed of $25,000 cash, gold, and 13 handguns.
- - There has been no restitution offered.
Would not hire Dixon and Sons Handymans Services if they were the only company listed. Under Blake Dixons watch I was robbed of $25,000 cash, gold and 13 handguns.
After discovering all the drug paraphernalia in and around the house it explained the missing money and gold but not the guns.
There has been no effort to make restitution or make it right. The 25,000 missing was on top of the $13,000 cash I paid to get the job done.
- Did not do what they said
- Scam contractors looking to have a legit business
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Hire at your own risk, but be prepared to watch every move.
Bad account management
- - I'm trying to change the areas I advertise with Angies.
- - The account manager calls, but no action occurs.
For the last 2 months, I am trying to change the areas that I advertise with Angies. My account manager pulls this and in the office, everyone says that only he can deal with that and I have to learn to work with him.
I tried to set up deals and that is for the last 4 months ( after 1 month I lost any hope that he will do anything). Every time manager will call and no one does.
Preferred solution: Some one to talk with that have authority to take action.
User's recommendation: Make sure that you can change an acount manager.

Verified ReviewerLies about the cancelation
- - Deal: $1,350/mo; cancellation if services aren’t delivered.
- - Cancellation attempts unanswered; 35% termination fee per PDF; not agreed.
At the begging I had a good experience with them, I set a deal with Sean Stuart for a big amount, for me, $ 1,350.00 monthly and we agree to pay monthly so if they don't provide the services that I expected we can cancel.
But my nightmare started when I want to cancel the services.
Today, Dec 16, after 3 emails, Dec/4, 14 and 16, that I sent to cancel with no answer.
I called my "senior client success manager" Chase Barber to ask for the cancellation and the waiver of the monthly payment that was done on Dec/13, after I asked for the cancellation.
So after this he told me that to cancel he can't waiver the monthly payment and I need to pay 35% of my whole contract, that its more than $3,500.00, that it's really new for me.
He told me to click in one link and at this pdf I found the termination fee that I never agreed and never been mention before.
I'm my opinion this is much more than simple unethical.
Our partnership ended when he told me that doesn't matter that he is not delivering what the company promised me under the contract.
But he can't waiver the charge to cancel and he will charge the termination fee that I never agreed.
- At the begging they will do what they promised
- Huge promises
- Small delivery of services
- Canclled the will keep charging you
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: No more, they promise a monthly payment job and I can't cancel

Verified ReviewerComplaint about a licensed contractor
I want to file a complaint about a licensed contractor in Kingman Golden Valley Az area whom I hired to do some work on my home a couple maybe three years ago. The name of his company is "Husband For Rent" His name is Dave Hamilton.
He put to wrong size of swap cooler on the roof of my mobile home and it took myself and two other men over a year to finally convince him that it was not right size as it kept spraying water all over my ceiling and my 65 " Big screen TV.
He finally replaced the swamp cooler but refused to repair my ceiling in my living room the water damaged has caused, So because of this I want people to know he is not an honest contractor. My ceiling has water damage and he will not fix it.
- Damaged ceiling
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution
User's recommendation: DO NOT USE THIS CONGRACTOR! HE IS NOT HONEST!
